I mean, he DID have the most wins out of anybody from his season. The reason can't be because he competed in the UToC, because Kermin did too.
Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

Sure it can. "By participating in and receiving a fifth-round bye in the UToC, you waive any claim to participate in the Plain Vanilla Tournament of Champions. For your consideration, you will win a minimum of $250,000."

An admirable display of restraint on Friedman's part, considering that there were probably some at Sony and KW wanting him to bring back Jennings--he realizes that the show was around for a long time before KenJen and will be around a long time after.

I almost hate to say this, but there is the matter of objective fairness to Ken.  If Kermin Fleming (the 2004 College champ) is in the current ToC field, then the powers-that-be decided that he was entitled to participate in the regular Tournament of Champions for which he qualified, even though he had also participated in their Ultimate tournament.  This is the regular Tournament of Champions for which Ken has qualified.  Every other multi-day champion prior to Ken got to participate in a regular ToC as well as the Ultimate Tournament.  Ken will not have that opportunity.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

I'd agree if every other multi-day champion also got a bye into the final round and a guaranteed $250,000 payday even if he just stood there and performed the theme from "Jaws" with the old hand-in-the-armpit trick.

Frank Spangenberg and Bob Blake did Super Jeopardy! before their regular season TofC occurred.

Can a contestant decline their berth in the ToC? I suspect they can, though I'm not saying that's what happened here.

One contestant did decline their berth on Super Jeopardy! in Summer 1990, as per Alex at the top of one episode, becasue they were running for political office at the time. There are at least two players who would have qualified for the UTofC, i.e. Amanda Goad and Larry McKnight, who would have been invited based on being a five-time winner with $48K+ or having won a tournament, that declined for whatever reason. Bill Dickenson and one other player who escapes me at the moment made the tournament because of them declining.

INCORRECT!

As per Harry Friedman as per his book "Inside Jeopardy!" one contestant declined because someone in his family was getting married. As per me, you're losing your touch. As per me, you ought to get your facts straight. As per me, there are a handful of people on this board that still care about your tripe. As per me, do it for them!

Friedman is not the writer's last name, it's Eisenberg.
