Prime Time Game Shows

Because of the much anticipated Gameshow Marathon, I thought you might be interested in a list of game shows that have been in prime time since Who Wants to be a Millionaire burst onto the scene in August 1999.  This list only includes game shows, and not "reality" shows.  I was surprised to learn there have been 16 of them - not bad for something that rarely saw the light of day in prime time for almost 30 years.  

I've tried to include episode information as well, but if anyone has any updated numbers, or if there's anything I've missed, feel free

So far, nothing's come close to matching the magic of WWTBAM (not that I'm really expecting anything to).

Interesting list.  I find it disheartening that there hasn't been a new network daytime game in more than ten years.

The first "Play for a Billion" was on The WB, not Fox.

I find it interesting that no game show has debuted in any network's fall lineup since 100 Grand in 1963!

I agree - but I wonder if it's because networks want the most eyeballs possible on any new project.  Daytime audiences are still a fraction of primetime.

"Big Deal" was a fall starter, unless you count it as an LMAD incarnation.

"Big Deal" ran 5 hour-long episodes in Sept 1996.  It was supposed to come back again the following spring (I believe as a half-hour), but never did.

Wasn't at least one of the episodes not seen at all because of FOX NFL coverage(the Big Deal time slot was Sundays at 7PM IIRC)

Five episodes were made, but only three of them actually aired. Shame, because it wasn't all that bad...

You don't see game shows premiere in prime time in the fall for pretty much the same reason you see very few new reality shows start then--the upfront buyers see a new reality show on the schedule as a sign of weakness (established shows, of course, are another story).  The view is still to see them as mid-season hole-pluggers or summer filler, despite the fact that mid-season shows, whether scripted or not, have a little better batting average than fall starts.
