Just as a note: sometime in the week of Nov. 9th, 2003 (I'm sure someone has already calculated when), WoF will turn 4000. I'm assuming this is the syndie ep. count, but it's still a heck of a milestone.

Out of curiosity, if they were counting the daytime run, would Wheel have passed the 5000 show mark yet?

Yours,
Thomas

Going on roughly 250 daytime shows a year for 16 years, not only would \"Wheel\" have passed the 5,000 show mark total, it would've passed the *7,000* show mark and come close to the 8,000 show mark.

And it's among the 3 wks worth of shows taping at Radio City the weekend after next...I'm there! :-)

Is it safe to say that \"Wheel of Fortune\" is the game show with the most-ever episodes?   I guess \"Price is Right\" would beat it only if you included episodes from the '50s and '60s run.

I think WOF would be record holder(about 8,000), with J! in second place(counting the original, about 7,200), the current run of TPIR in third(with about 6500, counting the syndicated versions and primetime specials), and Feud in fourth with 5500-6000(counting all network and syndie runs)

Why would you count the original version of Jeopardy but not count the original version of The Price Is Right?

I did say \"The current run of TPIR\", sorry for the confusion. Adding Cullen's run probably would put the count of TPIR episodes arond 9,000. Trebek said on J!'s 3000th show in 1997 that TPIR had 9000 episodes in the can \"and still going strong\", when he discussed other game shows that had made it to 3000 episodes. I'd assume they'd have added Cullen's run to get that figure, as the current run of TPIR hadn't yet hit 5000 at that point.

Oh, I saw what you said, I wasn't confused by that at all.  I was just curious becaue you chose to include Art Fleming's Jeopardy in your totals but specifically chose not to include Bill Cullen's TPIR.  It just didn't make any sense to me that you would count one but not the other.

I think one reason for including the original \"Jeopardy\" in the calculations is that, for the most part, it's the exact same show.  \"Price is Right\" is a lot different than it was in its original run...but I guess since it's based on the same premise, and has the same title, we should include it.

Yeah, they just ran that ep. on Sunday. How many shows do you figure for MG? By the time you add up the 4 versions of it, I'd say it has to be at least as many as Feud.

No.

Edit:  I take that back.  Was The Match Game a weekly show?

Using the episode guides at matchgame.org plus uncamark's estimate of 250 daytime shows a year for the original version, I come up with around 4700 episodes of Match Game in all its incarnations (even MG/HS).  So if Zach's estimates are correct (and remember, Feud produced ten shows a week for huge chunks of its run) then Match Game falls as much as a thousand episodes short of Feud.

Truth is, there have probably been more episodes of Hollywood Squares than Match Game.  A rough estimate would be about 22 complete seasons, which would be over five thousand shows.

Newlywed and Dating would have to be considered as well, I guess, but my gut feeling would be that they fall short of the six we've mentioned.

So where we seem to stand right now is:
1)  The Price Is Right  (9000+)
2)  Wheel of Fortune  (8000)
3)  Jeopardy (7200)
4)  Family Feud (6000)
5)  Hollywood Squares (5000+)
6)  Match Game (4700)
.
.
.
745)  What's Going On? (5)

And of course, all but Match Game are currently adding to their totals.  Anybody want to offer some hard facts to back up (or dispute) any of this?  And didn't we do this once before on Usenet?

The 60s MG was daily, as was the CBS 1973-79, daily SYndie 1979-82, MG90, and MG98. The only weekly version of MG(aside of one or two 60s primetime specials discussed several months ago in Ezboard) was MGPM. Assume 250 episodes a year for 60s MG time 6.75 years=about 1700 episodes. Add 250 episodes a year for the almost 6 years of MG79=1500 daytime episodes. Add to that 230 episodes of MGPM and 525 for the 1979-82 Daily SYndie. MG90 did about 245 and MG98-99 another 175(I think) episodes. That adds up to 4375 if my math is right.
