25 Things You Didn't Know About Game Shows
« on: June 11, 2006, 06:32:01 PM »
Entertainment Weekly says the TV Guide Channel will air this show on Sunday, June 18 at 8 PM ET.

What does TV Guide know that the public doesn't? Here is some speculation:

Password has never repeated a password. That is why the show has not been on the air since 1989. They simply ran out of words.

The model for Press Your Luck's Whammy is comedian Gilbert Godfried.

Concentration was a radio show that aired on the NBC Blue network originally. Host Art Baker received critical and public acclaim for his ability to describe a rebus puzzle on the radio.

I'm gonna beat my friend Brandon F-G to the punch on this one:

It's a JOKE, ZACH. We don't need to know how many times a password was re-used.

What does TV Guide know that the public doesn't? Here is some speculation:[/quote]In the UK, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" was supposed to have the title "Cash Mountain". The name was changed only because Lloyd's of London refused to insure the potential loss of one million £1 notes originally planned to be placed in a mountainous pile on the set.

Alfonzo was just having some fun with it--I assume the show will be more straight-forward.  But it is TVGC, so it probably won't be any good.

Excepting the show ffrom which my sig quote comes from, of course.  :)

I get the feeling we'll get such shocking, unknown items as:

"Chuck Woolery actually used to host 'Wheel of Fortune!'"

(gets shotgun, waits for the first "WOOLERY LEFT WHEEL???!!!!ONE!" post)
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

Too late, it's already included in the 6-Volume Set "The Zach Horan Encyclopedia of Game Show Rules, Regulations & Records " ($49.95, Harper and Row) , to be available July 18th at fine bookstores everywhere.  :-P

#25: Did you know that Press Your Luck debuted in 1981?
GSN will roll those 1981 shows along with the 1977 episodes of Gambit directed by Jerome Shaw in a special presentation called Game Shows: The Invisible Years.
It'll run all next week in the 3-4am Eastern time period normally reserved for commemorations for the recently deceased.

I tried taping this the last time they ran Game Shows:  The Invisible Years.  But when I looked at my tape, there was nothing on it - and I was hoping to get a nice collectible  :(
