Oh, is that it? Taking nothing away from Our Benevolent Moderator, but that was more a declaration of shenanigans. Hell, I do that almost every day here. :)

Well, we all love Stubby Kaye--he was such a great performer.  :)

I think #16, where Jekalb himself admits that his account "might not be the 'true' story," says it all.  He posts crap, admits to the, er, "possibility" that it's crap, and then posts MORE crap.  Gotta love it.

Mr. Tanner's advice in #27 is one of my two favorite concise bits of advice ever posted to ATGS:

Quote
Get a life...get a brain...get a new newsgroup...
To answer Mr. Lemon's other question, I'm not aware that Mr. Jekalb has posted under any other name.

And where's the part where he gets conclusively disproven and subsequently pwned?

Always appreciated, but I am by no means the expert on shows that may or may not exist. In fact, re-reading that thread all these years later, I'm still not enirely sure how much of the legend is true, if any.  Forget all the weirdness about the drinking binge, the loser uncle and the destroyed tape.  Was there or was there not a H-Q pilot called Casino, and did it or did it not air?
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

For what it's worth, it was never listed in TV Guide - and they did list pilots or "previews" if they were scheduled to air.  I always made an attempt to watch any game show - pilot or otherwise - and I never heard anything about it until the newsgroup posts of the late '90s.

And it seemed to me that the claimed date of the pilot was after Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley broke up their partnership, which was shortly after "Las Vegas Gambit" got cancelled in 1981.  (I haven't looked at the thread this time--I'm not sure if I want to relive it right now.)

Forgive me, but wasn't All-Star Blitz Heatter-Quigley?

That is correct--Bob Quigley's daughter herself verified to me in 1982 (when she was an actress in Chicago) that the partnership had broken up--he hadn't been active in the company for years.  He spent most of his time at home writing classical music and only came into the office when they had to pitch a new show, according to her.

And Battlestars was listed as a Heatter solo production from the beginning, it having debuted five weeks before LVG's end(though LVG may have been in reruns by the time Battlestars debuted)

I'm watching "25 Things You Don't Know" on TV Guide right now. What the hell?

#12: Game shows are imported and exported.
Yeah...there's a no-brainer for you.

Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

A casual fan may not know that shows like Family Feud air overseas.
So, yeah.

Since even a casual fan knows that DoND and Millionaire were imported from overseas, only a jingoistic moron wouldn't come to the reasonable conclusion that it works the other way, too.

"What? They have TV over there? I had no idea!"

It was a harmless little 50-some minutes, but stuff we've all known by now.

With one exception--the fact that Bill Cullen has been on the TVG cover more than any other game show host, past or present.  However, it looked like he never had a cover to himself--it was always with either the "IGAS" panel or other hosts.
