Shop Til You Drop? Who'd have thunk it?

I thought GSN might have either gotten Queen for a Day, or else they already had STYD.  Wasn't sure which one, though.

Seeing STYD was still a surprise, admittedly.  And given that it wasn't the Shop til you WalMart Roberto version, it was a passable way to spend 30 minutes.

(And as we all know Jamie, surprises are fun)

Well, bravo! I was expecting a clip fest, but GSN brings the goods with full epsiodes. I'm not too big of a fan of Shop 'Till You Drop, but I'm glad it got a full version. I love Tattletales, so I'm overall happy tonight.

I have to admit, seeing the full ep. of "Shop" was a treat. Seth's right---it could have been the Roberto version [I've seen one ep. of that, and that's enough for me], but it wasn't. Kind of wish they could have pulled out one from the Walberg era [and mentioned his rise to RR], but what we got wasn't bad. Sure, yes, Dee in drag was quite [un]appetizing...but dang! How 'bout that Shopper's Challenge??!?

Just remember, folks: We've already seen worse on this countdown.

Wasn't expecting to see "Queen" in there [anyone remember how many eps. Trio showed when they had that???], but for TorC to get the shaft.....yeah.

There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

They didn't already have STYD... they apparently had to specifically license an episode... which may be encouraging for the rest of the countdown.

Yeah! The couple that played it & won was too damn smart. I'll bet that 950 points was the highest score in the history of the show.

They aired three which, again, adds to the props to GSN for not digging into the "vault of public domain" to get product.

After seeing how they talked about Studs last night, I was thinking today that STYD would be a full episode. Wasn't there a rumor going around at one time that GSN had STYD and SS from PAX and that they were going to air them in the future? I know SS will probably fall on that list somewhere, and we'll see if we get a full episode of that.

No, GSN had access to some old Family Channel shows including SS, Family Challenge, Masters of the Maze, and Wild Animal Games, perhaps because of a Bob Boden connection (he had worked for both channels). All four (but not STYD) appeared on a past Feast of Favorites ballot.

Yeah, I remember those Family Channel shows showing up on the ballot (and Family Challenge airing on weekends at one time), but I was referring to the shows from PAX. I thought this was more of a recent rumor, like in the last 6 months or so. I forgot about Shopping Spree.....the SS I was referring to was Supermarket Sweep.

Night 3 wasn't quite as good as the first 2 nights, but it got 4 more in including 2 full episodes.

Shop Till You Drop(#45) certainly took me back at least 10-15 years.  The stunts were intresting to say the least(though I hate to shutteer at the sight of Dee wearing drags).  Pat Finn was OK but his laughing was a bit annoying I thought.  I don't remember seeing any couple rack up that many points(950) in one show.  At least it was much more passable than the Roberto version anyway.

Ah, the original TattleTales(#43).  Nothing like hearing Bert Convy refer to the yellow section as the "banana" section.  I was in Batavia NY when it first came on the air in the early '70s.  It's not one of my favoritte shows involving celebrities, but it sure was nice to bring back those childhood memories again.

As for Queen For A Day, I wouldn't mind seeing it though I wouldn't expect to see it since it was before my time.  As for TorC, I wouldn't mind seeing Barker doing what he does best: playing with the audience.  It was a natural for him.

Now we await week 2 starting at #41.  Hopefully, I'll see some more goodies down the pipe.

After what I've seen so far, here's my Analysis:

#50- Three's a Crowd: How the heck this got on the list is beyond me. Totally inane show.

#49- Treasure Hunt: This should have been higher on the list. It was a good show. I never saw a complete episode until now.

#48- Blockbusters: Also should have been a little higher, and they should've aired a John Hatten episode.

#47- Studs: Another WHAT THE *$%&* pick. Blech.

#46- Hollywood Showdown: This show is kinda where it needs to be on the list.

#45- Shop Til' You Drop: How the heck GSN was able to air an episode of this is beyond me. I always thought the highest maingame score on this show was about 900 or something.

#44-Truth or Consequences: I thought this should have been close to the middle of the list. Fairly popular show.

#43- Tattletales: See Hollywood Showdown.

#42- Queen For A Day: No way.

I'll bet you Match Game's #1 on the list.

Damn, Pat Finn's laugh is annoying.  It sounds like every stereotype of a game show host you've seen in commercials.

And I'm assuming that by this point that S-S was doing their own sweetening instead of calling in LaMasney/Wheeler--tell me that those two gentlemen would know better than to dub in applause for two stunts that didn't involve any running around and would require that an audience be quiet for the entire round.

"STYD"'s presence on the countdown is because it had the tenacity of a cockroach in an era when game shows were in a valley.  It never was that good a show then or now, but it sure could stay on the air in an era of lowered expectations.

Good news, someone on the GSN board says that they saw a shopping cart on the set that Bil's on...maybe we'll see Supermarket Sweep afterall. It was one of my favorite shows to watch while studying for college/high school exams...

The Red Tag Special prop from Sweep is on the set.  So is what appears to be the large wheel from The Big Spin.  I doubt this means we'll see an episode of either, but rather that GSN borrowed some stuff from Bob Boden.
