Yet, you thought better enough of it to edit your original post, didn't you?

Whatever, pal.

While Chris and Mark fight in the sandbox, I'll bring up the fact that I'm surprised still that STYD got an airing.  If Supermarket Sweep gets no mention, we riot, lol.  Should be interesting to see what does and doesn't make the list, but as of now, aside from a long running franchise like Truth or Consequences not being in at least 30th place on the list, no major complaints.

Well, all I can say is that I'm glad I got somebody to tape the shows for me, being without GSN here in corn country...:).  Although I wasn't the biggest fan of STYD, I will say that I've certainly seen worse (including that laughable excuse for a game show with Roberto), and I didn't mind watching it occasionally.  I'm interested to get a glimpse at the Pat Finn version again.

Oh, and I'm really looking forward to seeing that '70s TH; having only seen eps. from the '80s version, it'll be great to see how it all got "started."

I'll also throw a request out for one of our brethren (who are much more computer savvy than I...;) ) to find out what next week's shows are.  I'd rather not have somebody waste his/her time and tape Dog Eat Dog or the Larsen eps. of PYL for me, for example!  'Tis no big deal if I don't know in advance; after all, that's why the FF function exists...:).

I have learned a lot from this countdown

1.  Pat Finn isn't that bad as a host; it's just that some of the formats he was saddled with made him look bad.

2.  GSN has the rights to STYD, hoping that Shopping Spree gets aired sometime.

3.  I'm starting to appreciated the list TV Guide put out a lot more.

I kinda figured that if the creators of Game Show Network was going to talk to this countdown.  It would sound something like this.

No they do not.  As far as I know, they only licensed the one episode.  Perhaps if it did well for them, they'll acquire more episodes, but as of right now they haven't.

I totally agree with you on this one. I think Pat could have been seen in a better light with a different set of shows.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed that StyD episode. It was a nice change from the warehouse set, the horrible theme song lyrics, and those crappy, boring, wannabe pricing games.

Many probably thought StyD was bad enough with Pat. After a couple of years with J.D. Roberto's version, Pat's looks a whole lot better.

Yes, that was the third episode of '70s Treasure Hunt they've run.  Looks like I'll have to be updating my "What GSN has aired" online list soon!

Or, to get it more into the 21st century, AWTSAT (anyone willing to seed a torrent)?  For these kinds of things where it has negligible trade value but would be appreciated by the community, maybe we should start going this route?

Here Here.  If someone's willing to cap the episode and get it initially uploaded, I'm more than willing to serve as a seed for it for however long needed, ensureing a copy's up for all who want it.

I have to admit, I said some time ago that I didn't think BitTorrent was a viable distribution method for These Shows Of Ours (taking a bit from the Spielfrieks board game list, where they refer to German board games as These Games Of Ours, or TGOO), but I appear to be being proven wrong. And happy to be so. Something like this would be an interesting pilot project.

I say to hell with trade value - the game show trading community should switch over to digital video as their primary trading route. Mainly to put an end to generational loss, but also to make the more common stuff widely available for preservation's sake. I just recently got my copy of the PYL and SC pilots, for example, and they're in horrendous shape (especially the PYL pilot - both horizontal and vertical jitter all over the place). Preferably such captures should be made from the best quality possible, of course.

Also, whoever caps any game show eps - PLEASE DO NOT DEINTERLACE. Best route is to simply put it on DVD, that way the full temporal resolution is maintained (too many internet-distributed TV rips are deinterlaced and half of the frames are irretrievably lost).

Basically, I envision something like the Digital Archive Project, except for game shows.

I always thought STYD was pretty okay.  This newer version is a little grating, but they built a more just endgame (alternating running duties instead of handing it off to the guy), and that's normally what I tuned in for anyway.

I don't remember what year it was, but it had to be late in the run.  A lot of stuff done in the endgame was similar with what they use now.  Pat also sounded a little congested but that has nothing to do with anything.

As for the rest of the countdown, I can understand why 3's a Crowd is there and am not going to argue.  Studs seemed like it appeared only because of DeCarlo and I'm STILL trying to figure out what was so impressive about the Blockbusters episode.
This signature is currently under construction.

From watching some of the very end of Pat's tenure, it seemed to be More of Same every day. How many different ways can you do the "We'll give you two choices for the price of each item. Pick the one you think is right? If you think the blender is $69, grab the monkey, if you think it's $89 then grab the giraffe"? At least earlier on they had that Product Pachinko thing which was interesting to watch for 45 seconds.

In essence, the show was a cross between "The Price is Right" and "Beat the Clock," and as good as neither. The "Shopper's Challenge Round" was the high point of each show, except the material asked wasn't all that challenging, and the endgame was as luck-based as anything Dan Enright could come up with.

And if you were to compare my pile-of-parts car to a Radio Flyer, my car doesn't look so bad anymore. But it still sucks. :)

I've thought the same thing...but there are legal issues to consider.  It's one thing to download and seed, but another to run the tracker...
