Despite my own warm and fuzzy feelings about GONG, I can't see the execs at GSN making it top-15 of all time.
Thing is, what would make a Gong omission so glaring at this point is the fact that they've already included $1.98 Beauty Show, a totally forgettable show that owes its very existence to the success of Gong.  It would be like including Joanie Loves Chachi in a list of all-time great sitcoms and leaving out Happy Days.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

And here is what's also been seen on the TV Ads:

- The Dating Game
- $20,000 Pyramid
- Let's Make A Deal
- Password
- The Gong Show
Don't forget The Hollywood Squares, the Marshall version appeared in a promo.

HSq was in the press release--I think SimpsonGeek just didn't want to duplicate any shows, as we're at this point trying to figure out what show could possibly be given the shaft.

I'm with you there.  But my feeling is that if GONG were in this countdown, it would've aired/been mentioned already.  I can't imagine that GSN execs who compiled the list would look at GONG with the same kind of fondness I do and put it high in the countdown.

But, hey, I've been wrong before. . .

Of course putting Joanie Loves Chachi on any top 50 list of sitcoms would be like compiling a list of game shows and including Studs...oh wait, nevermind.

Well hey, Gong is a very popular show, believe it or not. Even with non-game show fans, it's a pretty decent and popular hit. Heck, our school STILL does a version of The Gong Show every year...

There's no question it was popular.  I've heard rumblings that NBC's decision to cancel GONG in 1978 was not a ratings decision (although I'm not sure how accurate that is).  I'm somewhat comfortable in saying that that for as many people who loved GONG, there were prolly just as many who hated it.  There are at least a couple of biases to justify it:

1.  It's not a game show
2.  Barris shows are schlock

Those who hate the show could probably come up with more.  A lot more.  Doesn't change my love for the show, but the more shows I see in this countdown that aren't GONG, the harder I'd find it to believe that GONG deserves to rank higher than those shows in, say, the top 25 (which isn't to say I didn't rank it higher in my own personal list).

And if that made sense, someone please explain it to me.  :)

Well, so far, it's been a roller-coaster ride for the special.  Night 12= Thumbs in the middle.  We did get a rare season 1 episode of Lingo, but they wasted the second half hour on a second ep, which they could've used to slot Name That Tune or #15.

Week 4 as a whole also gets a thumbs in the middle.  We got some goodies (IGAS, TTTT), but we also got some klunkers (Double Lingo).  We'll see what Week 5 has to offer as we get down to the home stretch.

Well, in looking ahead at what positions will be covered each night, it seems we're going to get at least 3 more hour-long shows (or two episodes of something)... one of them is probably Press Your Luck - they promised the Larson episodes... but what are the others?  Millionaire and Race? TPIR maybe?

From the press release:

"In course of telecasting these classic shows, “The 50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time,” will bring back memorable episodes from the game show library including such gems as the most notorious “Newlywed Game” episode which host Bob Eubanks denied existed for many years, and Michael Larson’s scandalous “Press Your Luck” performance, with the late Peter Tomarken as host."
