Personally I'm wondering how many Tomarkenites are crapping themselves that the Gong Show is apparently better than Press Your Luck. :)

It's awesome to see the Marshall Hollywood Squares on GSN. Paul Lynde's zingers were hilarious. Here was the 1st question:

Marshall: After 90 years, what will New York be repainting?(Something like that)

Lynde: I think Arlene Francis...

LOL...this was one of the funniest game shows ever! #11 is a good ranking.

Good shows selected for #12 and #11. Now I guess we can start making our predictions on what the top 10's going to be like. Tuesday has shows #10 and #9, Wednesday has show #8, and Thursday has show #7. Start placing your bets now.

After watching the gong show, I am curious about something.  Did all acts have to perform for a minimum amount of time before the panel can put the audience out of its misery?

Gong Show 81/100

Hollywood Squares 95/100

Hit my predictions on the nose!

Four.  :-D

Nice to be wrong about GONG's presence in the countdown--I really thought TAR might bump it when mentions of it possibly surfacing were made.

Wow--this thread reached over 700.

I'm not watching the countdown tonight, but I noticed in the promo that Steve Martin was on the panel.
If the first act was Michael Lincoln, this is the episode where there's no winner and Chuck almost chokes on confetti at the end of the show.

Which was the episode I had expected them to show (if they indeed were going to show one).  Instead, they went back a week.

As an aside, there was at least one other winnerless show--the 7/18/78 episode.  That's the episode where Chuckie damages the "Gong" curtain with his cane when it won't go up (the uncensored version of that appears in the movie).  Good stuff.  :)

Welp, 10 shows left.  We saw  The $20,000 Pyramid, so that's gonna be on the list.  (I'm guessing they'll run Billy Crystal's 26-second Winner's Circle, since some promos end with a brief shot of Billy's Pyramid ep.).  Jeopardy and Wheel are givens.  Millionaire will also likely make the top 10.  Newlywed and Dating are also possibilities.  TPIR is the biggest question mark.  If they somehow acquire an episode, it'll be #1.  If not, look for it to land somewhere in the top 5, with Millionaire being the likely #1.

As for this week, some good choices with the Larson eps being the big highlight.  Thumbs up for week 5.

Isn't the only surviving video of that the tape shown when Crystal and Sal Viscuso were booked?  Meaning that the original episode of that WC run doesn't exist?

By that point, it was 45 seconds (first Barris week it was 20 seconds, by the third week it was 30, then within a few months it became 45, which stayed for the remainder of the run).

Yup, and the time limit got longer as the series went on. It started at 15 seconds, then 30 seconds, then 45 seconds, and since "Gong Show" was a legitimate competition underneath all that tomfoolery, it was strictly enforced. (I've seen at least one episode where an act got gonged, a couple of folks offstage yelled "No, no!" and Chuck came out and restarted the act. Weird that they didn't edit that out...)

not quite 15 but 20, then 30, then 45.  Plus they didn't restart, they just picked up from where they got gonged.
