Interesting stuff.  I take issue with the debut of the Big 7 though.  I'm pretty sure it didn't occur until sometime in '76 - maybe around the time they increased the prize to $20,000.  I remember being home from school sometime around that time and Dick mentioned that they have a new feature, and I was dying to find out how it was played.  I would have watched the shows from Dec. '74 because of Christmas break, and I'm pretty sure the Big 7 wasn't active at that time.

Maybe they took points off for Osmond's version.  :)

Frighteningly, that occurred to me.

Hey, great minds and all that.  :-D

But, you know, friggin' STUDS.
Point taken.  And it's a good one.  Hard for me to justify its inclusion as well at the (apparent) expense of NYSI, SWEEP, HIGH ROLLERS, et al.

You're smiling; but when I compiled my list, I *did* knock points off for the Osmond version.

Is that a bad thing?  Had I been able to separate the two versions, I would have.

I don't give GSN that much credit.

PYRAMID wound up lower in my list than on GSN's, but not because of Osmond's version (there were just other shows I preferred).  Now, Davidson's version, maybe.  :)

I have a stronger feeling that there was some order fudging now that I see that the Top 10 has its own two weeks.  I always had a feeling that show X may not always be 1 or 2 steps better than show Y, even if the order said so.

It really does look like Millionaire and Price for the final show.

I can't see Millionaire going that far down, but Price I see as definitely 2 or 1.

Isn't the only surviving video of that the tape shown when Crystal and Sal Viscuso were booked? Meaning that the original episode of that WC run doesn't exist?
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the exact air date for the Crystal win?  I know GSN only has 78-80, but I thought it did occur sometime in '78.
IMDB shows it as having occured in November 1977, which may or not be accurate.
According to this, the only Crystal/Viscuso week was April/May 1979, so there's a good chance they have this one.

OK.  So Crystal's record happened in the 11/28-12/2/77 week with Lynn Redgrave.  The clip of that was played on an episode with Crystal and Viscuso (my guess would be the Monday show--airdate 4/30/79), and that's what's been preserved for posterity.

I can see it, aaron (obviously).  Not only could you make the arguement that it gave the game show genre a shot in the arm, let alone reviving network shows, it would be a good companion with Price because it can fill the episode's hour.

I'm of the mindset that there will be no episode of Price.  Fremantle isn't really big on using clips without an Act of Congress, let alone full episodes.  I don't think they're going to make an exception here unless someone's ready to blow all that money they made from PlayMania.

TPIR is the biggest question mark. If they somehow acquire an episode, it'll be #1.  If not, look for it to land somewhere in the top 5, with Millionaire being the likely #1.
Mary, Mother of God!!! Millionaire #1 of all time? Above all of those others?
If The Network For Games couldn't land an episode of The Price Is Right for this event, they shouldn't have even bothered.
But, yes, I'm aware. Freakin' Studs.

Oh, I definitely agree with you about it giving game shows a shot in the arm. Look at what it spawned for awhile - lots of imitations and more prime time game shows for us to enjoy. It's only been around for 8 years - I'm thinking something more dated is going to join TPiR in the top 2. I don't know what, but I don't think it will be as new as WWTBAM.

As far as no episode of Price, this is what I look forward to most in the entire countdown. Not seeing an episode, mind you, but how they're going to handle it. IMHO, it would be awkward for them to just mention it, considering that it's one of the most familiar game shows on the air. If you look at it from a layperson's standpoint (layperson as in "not one of us", but your average TV fan), they're going to think it very odd that an episode of TPiR was not shown. The game show community knows why an episode would not be shown, but not your average fan. So it will be interesting to see how it's handled.

Yeah, and that is about the only thing keeping me from making statements like "if they DON'T air an episode of TPiR, I wish to have my account deleted from this board."

If I were at GSN, I would do whatever's neccessary to get an episode of TPIR, even if it's the one that played on CBS that morning, I'd get an episode.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.
