Original $otC Question
« on: July 05, 2006, 11:53:46 AM »
I was playing the 1970 home version of Sale of the Century last night with some family members, and we ran into a situation not covered in the rules.  Having never seen the Kelly/Garagiola incarnation, I made an on-the-spot ruling, but I would like to know what the actual rule is in case this should happen in the future.

The situation was a tie game.  We had completed the first round of 15 questions, and when the contestants counted up their cash winnings, two of them had exactly the same amount.  Who, then, should go on to the "Sale of the Century" round and purchase, if possible and if desired, one of the large prizes offered?  Should we do a toss-up question between the two tied players to determine who wins?  Should we simply have everyone set aside his winnings and go on to the next round of 15 questions?  What is the official rule here?

I'd honestly go for the TV rule and have one toss up (+5/-5) for the two tied players.
