Woolery, best known for his 1983-92 stint as host of Love Connection

Hmm...I don't know about that...

I think the People writer is right on this one.  If you were to mention Chuck Woolery to a bunch of average viewers, most of them would probably either think of LC, or say "Who?".   Believe me, a lot of people don't even know that Chuck hosted Wheel, or that Scrabble was turned into a game show.

And apparently not as well known for the 1992-94 seasons.

I don't know about that (But then again, I don't know any Love Connection fans...maybe there's a big fanbase someplace else?)...

My own theory--the spoof of Mike Tyson and Robin Givens appearing on LC (thanks to the first episode of IN LIVING COLOR) kinda kept LC in the "mainstream," as it were (never mind that LC had already been on for seven years).  LC probably had more clearances than SCRABBLE did at any point, by virtue of its syndie status (and, of course, Woolery had already left WoF).  So I think it's fair to say Woolery was probably noted for being LC's host more than any other show he had done.

And Jim Carrey's imitation of Woolery?  Priceless. (And the writer of the sketch managed to get a SCRABBLE reference in as well.)  :)

Haha, I forgot about that sketch (Wasn't it the first In Living Color sketch ever?)!

You may have a point there, as I remember the Love Connection parody on Beavis and Butt-head...

Indeed.  And I loved the little Scrabble reference that they threw in.
