DOND Handheld Electronic Game

Purchased one in Omaha, NE today (July 23).  Toys R Us.com
claims this and the DVD game are not available until
July 31.  I didn't see any other versions of the game
for sale at Target.

I must say I think they did a good job with this version.
Nice sound effects, scrolling text for the messages,
and the ability to finish the game even after you
take the deal, and the chance to switch the case at
the very end when you're down to 2 cases.

The only down side is it takes 3 of those annoying LR44
batteries that you have to pay dearly for when they need
replacing.  AA or AAA would have been preferable just
for convenience.

I'll be interested to hear others' thoughts.  My son and I
have had a lot of fun with the board game-I ended up
making an 'offer chart' in Excel so when my wife plays
she can look up a value for the offer based on how
many cases are left and the availability of the top 7 values
on the board.

Just to let you know, there is no need to hit Enter until you reach the end of a paragraph.

I'm just pointing it out now, because it's going to get really annoying really quick.

Have the tabletop versions been popping up anywhere else yet? I know people were saying that TRU have been getting them in, but I have yet to find them at my local one. My local one has been converted to the "newer" style TRU and carries less games than they used to. I am going to call a few TRU's that are near me (Vienna, WV and St. Clairsville, OH) that I know still are the "older" style (wall of games from pretty much front of store to back),  and have more games  to see if they have anything yet. They're both about an hour drive for me. I was planning a trip to WV this weekend anyway, and that TRU always seems to have some different things. The last time I was there they had the "100 Mexicanos Dijeron" home game.

I actually saw that at one of the local Wal-Marts recently.

Thanks for quickly buzzing in and identifying yourself as "resident grouch".

I'll try to avoid that in the future.
Or maybe not.

Holy wow. You're going to quickly find out that that WAS me being nice.

Anyhow, I was just trying to offer up a little advice to the new guy. Take it or not, the choice is yours, and I'll sleep fine either way.

That surprises me, I thought that conversion COMPLETED years ago. Certainly the Seattle stores have all been "newer" for a few years now.

I thought so too until I went to the Harrisburg one yesterday (I've never been to that one, going to the one that's closer to me). It's the old design with the wall of games. It's a TRU I'll be avoiding, as believe it or not, it's next door to the Dauphin County Prison...

Hmm. Maybe it's because I live in a major metropolitan area. The Everett store in this area was late to convert, I know that, but even then it was done last time I was in there a couple of years ago.

Er...Chris is 100% right about this.  That's, like, one of the first five things they're supposed to teach you when you use a text editor for the first time.

(And now I hope this can go back to the TRU discussion, 'cause honestly, I love learning about pointless stuff like this. :-))

I live in Vienna...As of yesterday, they have the box game and the card game that comes in the mini-briefcase. No electronic game (and to my chagrin, no Deluxe Wheel either. Vienna, WV--One of three towns in America without a Target.)

FWIW, Aaron (if you're interested in driving that couple extra miles), the Lancaster, PA store was renovated some time ago and does not have the wall of games. However, they still do have a pretty good selection of games there.

I have gone to Vienna, WV to shop all of my life, but what is the TRU.  Adam, I know you probably already did this, but have you checked KayBee?  If you feel like going to a Target, there is one in Bridgeport, WV at the Meadowbrook Mall.

Also, by the end of typing this message I finally figured out that it is a Toy's R Us.

That's ok. I'm not used to seeing that abbreviated (especially with the "R" not backwards) and it threw me too originally.

According to this thread, the new Deluxe Wheel is only available online, not at any Target stores.
