Season 35 of TPIR
« on: August 04, 2006, 07:30:35 AM »
According to the official website, season 35 begins on August 31. This is a Thursday. Does this  mean they're not actually taping shows for season 35 until then? They've been taping all summer, right?

That is correct.  Several members of this forum (myself included) attended the taping of TPiR that will be airing October 5 (taped at 1PM July 17).

Could it possibly be to limit possible leakage about some big announcement that might be coming?

(Barker's last season?)

I don't have a lick of reason to suspect this -- other than the out-of-order news.

Just a rogue idea put out for discussion.

Unlikely. Probably has more to do with how many shows they have missed over the past 6 months.

Recall, around Memorial Day the turnover time from tape to air was about 2 days.

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Not sure I follow--if the episode I was at airs in October (2½ month turnover time), that really doesn't explain why the season premiere isn't being taped until August 31.

I've heard rumblings that an occasion is being marked for that taping (not sure if it's accurate or if I'm getting it confused with something else so I don't feel comfortable sharing it here), but any additional speculation as to whether Barker's hanging it up is just that--speculation.

Haven't they taped premieres out of order before? I could swear there was at least one other mention of this in the past.

The season premiere was originally scheduled to tape on 6/8. According to this, which isn't the most accurate reference to use, they were still taping Season 34 episodes after 6/8.

The question is why they didn't push it back just a few weeks as opposed to 8/31. I've confirmed it had nothing to do with the cancellation of numerous shows over the past few months. Mea Culpa.

They are still going to have to make those cancelled shows up.

Could it be because they couldn't get Syd Vinnedge and a CBS exec together until this time to do the traditional season premiere Barker suckup?

Instead of the traditional three-week hiatus in August, they're only taking a two-week hiatus, so that makes up a week. There was a period in the late spring/early summer when they taped many more weeks in a row than usual, so that made up the other week. Which I think puts them close to being back on track, or at least close enough that they can space out 2007's tapings more easily to make up any remaining missed days.

Shows that will air in season 35 began taping on June 27. Everything taped before that date aired in season 34.

I attended the June 27 taping. Bob told us it would be the second week of shows aired for season 35. I believe he did give a reason for this, but I cannot recall what he told us.

One quick and funny story to tell...

I was lucky enough to be a guest of the show and therefore got to go through the artist's entrance and wait there to be escorted to the studio. It was so exciting...they came up, gave me my name tag and then we all waited for what seemed like forever. I was so afraid that they were going to forget us. Finally, the page came and up the elevator we went to the fabulous Bob Barker studio at CBS in HOLLYWOOD!

I think Rich was just getting ready to do warm up when the page told me..."there, sit in the front row". Like a MORON, I sat in one of the green seats! I was so nervous for some reason. The whole audience was already seated and since they brought me in from where the producer's table is, everyone was looking at me. Everyone started chattering around me, "should he be sitting there?". I realized right away what I'd done and looked behind me. There was my seat, TAPED OFF! I so didn't expect that. I got to sit directly behind contestant's row (and actually IN contestant's row for about 3 seconds). Look for me in the red polo.

I also got the chance to go up on stage after the taping, but damned my luck as all I had was my junky ass cell phone camera. I got a shot of me in front of the doors, but the stage lights were already down, so it didn't come out. As if going up on stage wasn't enough, I got to go backstage as well. Big as life, there was Bob getting ready to leave. Got to shake his hand and say hello before he and his giant basket of wine and cheese was whisked away. ;-D

What an exciting day. This was my first game show taping and I got the rock star treatment. The whole time I was there, I just kept thinking about all the history on that stage. It was truly an awesome experience and a game show fan's dream come true!

That was my most vivid memory of my single experience as a "guest" visiting the show -- all the would-be contestants who'd been waiting all day giving me and my party suspicious looks when we waltz in and take seats right in front.  Once we told them we couldn't play and we weren't going to deprive them of their lovely dinette sets, they were a lot nicer to us.

The lady next to me was quite intrigued by my 'VIP arrival' as well. She asked me very suspiciously if I was a contestant. :)

When I tell people (outside of this board, of course) about my similar VIP status at a taping this summer, I'm amazed at how often the reply is "well, if you know someone there, doesn't that give you an extra edge at becoming a contestant?"  Er, no. :-)
