USA Chain Reaction
« on: August 09, 2006, 05:02:07 PM »
Having never seen either the Cullen or USA versions of Chain Reaction (and as such, having did see the current version, IMO, not bad, but could use a payoff for 1 - 6 words in the end game), I had some questions regarding the USA version.

1. In the Bonus Chain, what was the rule regarding the last letter in a word.

2. What was the highest jackpot ever earned?

3. What was the tournament structure for "The $40,000 Chain Reaction"?

4. Other than being the announcer, what was Rod Chalabois's purpose on the show?

And one about the current version.

5. In Your Opinion, do you think they should've used the Bonus Chain on the current version?

Thanks for your inquries!

To the best of my knowledge, a Canadian show that airs in the US must have a Canadian on-air talent. That explains the witty banter at the end of the show. Actually, not quite sure about the "airs in the US" part.

2.  Several times it got over $10,000.  But I don't recall over $15,000.

3.  There were 16 mini-tournaments, each worth $7500.  Each tourney had 8 players.  Thus a winner was crowned every 7 shows.

4.  Canadian law.

5.  Nope.

If you needed it, you weren't winning anyhow.

To be Canadian. Seriously. His on-air job was to be Canadian.

No. It wasn't dramatic and interesting on that show, and since this show manages to suck the dramatic and interesting out of the places it DID exist, I see no reason to make things worse.

I give you the Canadian Content (or CanCon) breakdown, provided by your friends at Wikipedia.

Nutshell, if it's gonna air in Canada, a percentage of the on-air content must be of Canadian origin. Has nothing to do with whether it airs in the US or not.

1.  The last letter was not given.

2.  I remember seeing the jackpot hit $13,000 or $14,000 on at least once.

Really? Was a letter debited from their seven (or whatever) alloted when that happened? (I suppose it would be, since it's still information given. I'd just never seen it happen.)

I misread the question.  I thought he meant for the main game.

My bad.  Yes, in the bonus game, the last letter was given.  Sorry for the brainfart.

Hell, I would've loved to see Rod come out wearing a flannel shirt and a toque, chugging a bottle of Molsons red label and offering Geoff some back bacon and poltrine.  :)

Poutine.

Unless "poltrine" is poutine with chicken in it. :)

Guilty as charged and too lazy to look it up.

And there just happened to be an article about poutine in the paper the other day.  My fault.

Audience warm-up. You'll notice the crowd sounded equally enthused on every show of the five-year run.

Sorry to bump the thread, but I had some more questions about the USA version.

1. If a team/player didn't complete the Bonus Chain, was there a payoff per word?

2. In The $40,000 Chain Reaction, how did each mini-tournament word, and when did the Missing Link game come in?

3. Another Opinion Question: IYO, would such a tournament structure as was used in The $40,000 Chain Reaction work today in any game show?

Thanks!

I didn't think it worked in that one.

$100 per revealed word, INCLUDING the word given for free at the beginning.

(And there is a Chain Reaction page coming as soon as I move to my third server in one year. WireSix sux.)
