GS Font Knock-offs
« on: August 13, 2006, 09:56:00 PM »
I just noticed this when I was browsing through my font collection....

I have two very similar fonts on my machine.  One is Impact, the other is called "Genuine."  I have no idea how the latter came to be on my system, but it's an interesting find.

Here's the two fonts with the same width and height.  It's not too difficult to tell that there is a difference.

Kudos if you can find Genuine on a website!

So you're telling us that it's interesting that someone did a knockoff version of a well-known and oft-used commercial font?

Well, he doesn't call himself "The king of useless c**p" for nothing.  :)

/hopefully Nick takes that in the spirit with which it's intended
//it's been mentioned before--slashies are fun

Impact, of course, is the "genuine" article. So where's the ob? There's no real game show connection to this that I can see.

I think the connection is that Impact was the font used on Match Game. Or something.

Jay Lewis does cite Impact as used frequently on The Price Is Right, in the current Balance Game and elsewhere:
