Spent some time over at T.Q's theme site over the weekend, and came across the theme for The Peoples Court.  Though PC is not a game show, the theme itself (EDIT:  The opening rift), IMHO, should have been used for a game show (like a "Dirty Rotten Cheater" type show.

Any other non-game shows you can think of that had a theme good enough to be used a game show fodder?

Lemme tell you, you haven't truly experienced the theme from The People's Court until you've heard it....as porno music.

No, I'm not joking.

"This...is the plaintiff. <slapslapslapslapslap>"

Didn't even fit in context, either (as all good pr0n music should not)...if my memory serves, it was a nice young lady receiving a vigorous rogering over a sawhorse in a barn. :)

Heard the People's Court music. The porno bridge is strictly comedy.

As for non-game themes, I remember downloading a "PM Magazine" theme from Brian Karimzad's site. Very catchy (it's the 1980 theme, for the record).

I have some more that I'll add when I get the chance.

I remember it in the movie "Barbara Broadcast," circa 1978, which I saw due to my interest in, ummm, broadcasting.  It was used in a disco scene which led to a staircase, etc.  Neither Randy West was in that one as I recall.

I think a lot of the Sports anthology music of the '70's would have been right at home on a game show; a good number of '70s talk show themes fit as well.

I have three:
* The theme used during the early 1980s for The CBS Sports Spectacular.
* Don Kirschner's Rock Concert
* He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

Okay...

-Entertainment Tonight's first two themes (clips on YouTube)
-T.J. Hooker
-The first Knots Landing theme
-Some of the early Dallas themes
-Mid-80s PM Magazine theme (also on Karimzad's site)
-First SNL theme (actually the second version of the first version, redone around 1976)
-Second Cagney and Lacey theme
-Vega$ (Robert Urich, not the NBC show)
-Dick Van Dyke Show (for a 60s game show)

Finally, from the World of Soap Opera Themes, the theme from a very short-lived show called Kings Crossing...and yes, I know too damn much about TV :-P

Mission: Impossible (1960s version, perfect for a modern Beat the Clock remake)
The David Letterman Show (his 1980 daytime show)
SCTV (Both non-Spike Jones themes)
The New Dick Van Dyke Show (1970s)
The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour
The Flip Wilson Show

Tank! ( Cowboy Bebop opening): For some reason I can see this as the theme to Card Sharks. It does have that casino/lasvegas feel to the music.

Donahue: not sure about the 1980s version of the music, but the 1990s theme could serve a purpose for a simple "quizzer"

ESPN Sportcenter: Maybe for an Edgy gameshow of some kind, but definitely something in your face.

Yogi's Tresure Hunt: OK you're prolly cringing at this one, but I thought this had some gameshow quality to it. Somthing you could jive to. OK, maybe not so much as a regular gameshow, but prolly for a kids gameshow.

Fifteen (Nickelodeon).

Thata 'bout it.

Three, if you count the Russ Little syndication repackage theme (which is probably the most game show-ish of the bunch).

I'll reach over to the UK and would think that the bouncy theme music for "60 Minutes" (no, not that--the BBC1 local news wraparound show that replaced "Nationwide") could be used for a more upbeat show from that era.  I'd even say "Nationwide"'s "Good Word," but the French horns cut down on the suitability.

I see that and raise you. "Right to Reply" would probably make a good one.

I've got a few British themes that could make good GS themes----"Dempsey and Makepeace", "Return of the Saint" [probably the most GS-sounding on the list] "Big Match" [I had the 80's theme in mind, but the 70's theme wouldn't be bad], maybe "The Bill" [sans police siren at intro], "Grandstand", and there's probably a lot more....
There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

Of more recent vintage, the opening theme on "The Kumars at No. 42."

I could see the last part of the theme (ending with the "DA-duh-DA, DA-duh-DA!" bit) being the perfect cue for the part where the end game/bonus round ends and a new contestant enters the stage.

One of SCTV's closing themes was used as the theme to Academic Challenge here in Cleveland in the 70s and 80s.  I couldn't tell you which theme it was, but I'd venture to say it's the syndication theme Mark mentions above.
