That's where clue-writing has to be specific enough so that even though "U Can't Touch This" samples "Super Freak (Part 1)," there's only one acceptable answer (like possibly invoking MC Hammer's birthplace or real name--some might know either right off the top of their head, but I would think most wouldn't--so it's still vague enough to not give it away but specific enough to not allow "Super Freak" to be the correct answer).
"This 1990 tune used the riff from a 1981 Rick James tune to hit the nail right on the head."

Something like that?  :)
Yeah, it's been a while -- I forgot the clues were more specific than I originally thought.

Does restoring my faith in young people's taste in music count as winning?

Yep, it counts. :)

Funny how I recognize "Runaround Sue" and "Theme from A Summer Place", yet I've never heard of "My Humps"...

Yes Aaron, but will you recognize it when Donny Osmond sings it??  (a la Dionne Warwick on "Solid Gold").

How much would it cost CBS to play the originals (RIAA perks its ears up), vs. an instrumental version?

For those still out of the loop...

"My Humps" is performed by The Black Eyed Peas, and a clip can be heard on iTunes.

Ooooh!  Now that's an idea -- all the music played on Name That Tune could be from the clips on iTunes...Apple becomes the prime sponsor of the show, and CBS then touts it as "Name That iTune".

Let it be known that I absolutely HATE "My Humps", but seeing Alan Kalter perform the song takes at least some of that hatred away.

Some of us (they know who they are!) hold Alan Kalter in extremely high regard.

Love his delivery.

Remember the last time "Name That Tune" came back? The execrable "Name That Video".

First off "Name that Video" was not only bad, but unless i'm mistaken that is the only game show in history that has the distinction of not having one person win the bonus round and most of the videos that they used  in that round were pretty easy. So I think that they when they did the contestant searches for it, I think they were looking for people whose knowledge of music videos was either below average, or just plain sucked  out loud!  (pardon my french)

Good gawd you need to stop posting. Do you honestly think that contestant coordinators were told to book people who couldn't play the game, because they were watching the prize budget?

Bears repeating, good gawd you need to stop posting.

You're mistaken; there was a winner on the first night (or at least very early on).

I enjoyed NTV also.

To simultaneously defend and attack Name That Video's bonus round, a ton of time was eaten up just switching to the next video in sequence. It was not the most fun experience watching a contestant in the home stretch having conniptions because each transition was taking 2 full seconds.

Drifting off topic, that's always something that bothers me when I see it on a bonus round. Lingo's bonus is guilty of that (not that the bonus isn't preopsterously easy to win anyway) and seeing That's the Question for the first time today, the pacing is a little awkward there too.

Other than that, though, I like That's the Question.  A nice, little game with a bit of a challenge to it.  I wish GSN was pumping more out like that.
