While it is a sad day for game show fans, let's dwell on the fact that Bob Barker entertained many a viewer through his long, well-established career.  I remember first watching Bob on "Truth Or Consequences", making me laugh a lot, then trying his best to make "The Family Game" watchable and finally, making his version of "The Price Is Right" his very own.  Now he is walking down that "Gol------den Road" and getting to enjoy his retirement.  God bless you, Bob and many thanks for brightening up our days and nights.

P.S. Thankfully, I have relatives in L.A. What can I do to try to squeeze in one last taping? I appreciate those responses.

Just sent a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Tickets
The Price Is Right
7800 Beverly Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90036

/back to you, Bob
//what were you expecting?

Not much else...I just felt tht the spreading word would increase the line size exponentially. Forgive me.

While I'm definitely sure that Bob is genuine in saying that he wants to retire, I can't help but look at my watch which says it's almost November 1, 2006.  If the tape date for the finale is early June (forget the specific date), that means there are 7 months in between.  7 months is a lot of time to think about things and how one feels.  It's also enough time for feelings to change.

I'm not saying there's no way Bob isn't going to retire.  I'm just saying that there's way too much time to feel like there's anything definite.  If you want numbers, I'd say 75% that he retires, 20% that he has a change of heart, 4% that he has multiple change of hearts, and 1% Other.
This signature is currently under construction.

The show currently airs two half-hour editions weekdays

Wha...?

(Regardless... best wishes to Bob, and I'll go to my grave with the regret that I never got to see him host the show in person.)

No biggie....Just written by someone who doesn't know anything about the show (but he should have done a little research first).

I also wish I'd have gotten to see TPiR in person with Barker.

I saw that, too.  Nielsen rates both half-hours separately, probably just so CBS can brag about how many people watch the Showcases.

And note to Michimatt: I used to be an optimist.  Then I got exposed to cable news.

Todd Newton -> The Price Is Right = Katie Couric -> CBS Evening News

Depends on which Todd. If it's the Todd that I know Todd can be, it could be good.

However, if it's the overacting Eubankesque Gus Glitz-clone, we're in trouble.

I'm still holding out for the possibility of it being Marc Summers.

The latter is the one who does the stage show.

What a cruel way to end a rough month for me hearing that Barker's stepping down from TPIR in about 7 months.  I first heard the news while doleing out candy to the trick-or-treaters at about 6:40 PM on the network news(an NBC affiliate).  My first mermories of him was T or C as a young tot.  I first started watchimg hin on TPIR from its early days when I was a month shy of 8 years old.  Here's a breif list of the major events in history during his time on TPIR:

Vietnam
Watergate
Nixon's resignation
Elvis' death
52 American hostages in Iran
Ronald Regan's near-assasination
243 Marines killed in Lebanon(on my birthday, YUCK!)
Black Monday in 1987
Operation Dessert Sheild & Storm
The Northridge earthquake
Sep 11, 2001
The Iraq war

Clearly, there were others too numerous to mention.  The point is, we went through good times, bad times, & the rough times while Barker was host of TPIR,  Afrer 35 years as TPIR host & 50 years on TV,  we here at Invision will surely miss you Bob.  Thank you.

Let his "end run" commence immediately.

One thing we can hope is that if Price will continue without Bob, that Fremantle will keep the same staff. With Roger as EP, he knows how much fans love Price and it's likely that while Bob won't be there, the game's format will remain unchanged. Fremantle has learned from Family Feud that the fans remember the Dawson Feud, so Family Feud today is closer to what it was, while still having a fresh feel.

It won't be too long until we see shirts that say "We'll miss Bob" or "Good luck Bob" or something to that effect.

A highly trusted source told me this afternoon that Bob Barker will
be retiring as host of The Price Is Right at season's end.
The press will be told later today.
You know my history. I would not lie to you. That is all.

Drat, you beat me to it. I was just watching the opening teasers for the Today show and they said the same thing. You are certainly not lying.

The word "wow" does not begin to do this post justice.

Hon, you forgot the explosion of space shuttle Challenger, the AIDS epidemic, and the passing of Mark Goodson.

No dear, we were talking about the two Todds: Natural Todd and Gus-Glitz Todd. The latter does the stage show.

Agreed. Give us the Todd Newton from Hollywood Showdown, at ease with the contestants and not trying to rush through everything, and you've got a perfect Price host. Keep the W!TANPYL  Todd away at all costs.
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

Yes, but I don't think the prime-time special will be the final Barker ep. I'd expect the finale will air Friday, June 15, 2007 (or possibly a week later) at its regularly scheduled time.

If that is the final first-run show, hopefully they'll have a good sendoff before the summer reruns.

I'll admit I haven't seen the season's last show in quite a while...do they usually mention something about it, or just quiety slip into rerun season?
