Yeah, the story just hit Yahoo, too.

Man, and you thought lines were long at Studio 33 already...
I have no words to really describe it. As many have already said, we knew this day would come eventually. The impact of it, however, was bound to be huge nonetheless.

But just think...in a matter of months, somebody in the numerous, repetitive "Who Will Replace Barker?" threads will have made a correct speculation. I shudder to think who that may be...

I agree.

You know, while we knew it was coming eventually, isn't it a little nice that we'll know what the end date will be then just having a sudden stop, and also that Bob will get the sendoff he deserves, and more importantly, he'll be around to see it?

It should be pointed out that just because he set an end date does not 100% mean that he will be there to see it.  Just like there is not a 100% chance that any of us will see the end.

is it at least a little possible that the Fremantle folks have heard the phrase "don't shiat where you eat?" Maybe they'll give it a chance under a new regime before futzing with it?
I think the metaphor you're looking for is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

This is Fremantle we're talking about.

This is going to be a really interesting year for game shows.  We have all the new network game shows coming soon, plus Identity and what is looking like Without Prejudice? along with Child's Play.  We have a ton of syndicated shows coming, new seasons for Lingo and CR: WTF, plus a new host for TPiR and maybe more for it.  This might be one of the more interesting years in a reeeeeaaaaaaallllly long time.

Did we (or anyone) ever figure out the rumors of NBC's "daytime" plans, or was thatjust confusion from syndie D/ND?

Also, what is Without Prejudice?

You know, speaking as a fan who has loved the show, and while I don't think Bob is the greatest host of all time, but is still good...  I will at least try to get out to the show next spring and see it one time before he hangs it up.

We're still trying to figure out what the hell is going on with DonDd.  The taping was canceled twice, so that'll happen when it does.  Identity is for NBC.  Child's Play is rumored NBC, but we'll see.

Without Prejudice? was a UK game show seen on BBC America where basically a panel of people determined which of 4 or 5 contestants deserved the prize money.  There was no trivia, no anything.  It was just based on character.  ABC is claiming they are looking for people with interesting stories and people who really need the prize money, like if you need your house fixed or a botched plastic surgery thing or anything.  Past reports have said this show requires, to win, nothing else but a good convincing story.  Right now, it says you can win $100,000.  It sounds identical to Without Prejudice from early reports, but we'll have to see.  You know how TV is.

Actually, that's a bit hilarious since I recall Lodge was one of the stage show hosts. Tom must think he's really that bad or holding "Blind Date" against him.

I would not like to hold anyone involved with "Blind Date" against me ...

I'm surprised he lasted this long -- but the convergence of 50 and 35 is, indeed, the right time.

Bob Barker's been on daily TV every day I've been alive -- first TorC and then TPiR. And, of course, you can add in the Pillsbury Bake-Off and Miss USA/Universe.

An icon of the industry, pure and simple.
