This is a SIMPLE game!

Did 1v100 change the money tree *again*?  I don't remember seeing $150/mobster before last night's show.

I can see it now: "It's a simple game. In your first question, we'll give you $100 for every mobster who answers incorrectly.  If you keep playing, for every question after that, we'll give you a random amount.  Eliminate the entire mob and you win *one million dollars.*"

Hammett, where were you during the pre-production statistics meetings?

There isn't $150 per mobster, but it is $250. This was done to quell the fact that a lot of money can be won really quickly. It was known that the tree was going to change after a few episodes, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. This is the new setup:

1 - $100
2 - $250
3 - $500
4 - $1,000
5 - $1,500
6 - $2,000
7 - $3,000
8 - $4,000
9 - $5,000
10 - $6,000
11 - $7,500
12+ - $10,000

I like it, personally. It makes for longer games. Also, the idea would have been present that a contestant would've had $100,000 on only the fifth question, not wanting to risk it, but that's nearly been eradicated.

It was the $1500 I meant to ask about.  That's the one I didn't recall.

This show...I dunno. It just needs a kick in the pants. Does anyone else feel that vibe? Like, let's just get going and play a game - a game that has great potential but is falling flat right now. Get real contestants, not caricatures. Make the questions harder. Redo the stupid lifelines and make them so the contestant loses money by using one, so they don't all leave when they reach $75K+.

About a week ago, there was a thread mentioning how focus groups hate when D/ND contestants win less than $50K. I'm guessing Endemol is going to use that same information with 1 vs. 100, just to ensure that the same happens with that show.

Y'know, I'm happy Endemol is giving us more game shows, but it doesn't mean much when they can't seem to produce their way out of a paper bag (pre-manufactured contestants, heavily edited shows, six hour-plus tapings).

After watching most of last night's episode (I missed the first 20 minutes), it seems like the editing was much smoother, and I didn't notice any post-production voice dubs.  And kudos to the graphics people who were finally paying attention and keeping track of how many people were left!

You mean the vibe from the complete anti-climax of the player taking the money and running?  You know, the one that is in direct conflict with the idea of "either you win... or they do"?  Or how about the complete missed opportunity to make the format more than "answer random questions until you blow one or all of them have"?

Has anyone gotten to question 7 yet?  If not, then it really doesn't make the game too substanially longer.

As an aside, that "catchphrase" stuff was hilarious, just on plain cornball value.

I did notice at least one strange bit of editing; after one of the players had used both of his helps, he said, "I'm going for it" after hearing the question, and the audience applauded.  Since they haven't mentioned the ability to pass on a question after it is asked, at a cost to your winnings, this seemed out of place, as "of course he's going for it - what else could he do?".

I noticed that too.  I guess that proves the rule about the buyout is definately there ... would be nice if the home audience actually knew about it by now!
