That notwithstanding, SCRABBLE also made other tweaks that completely deviated from Day One (one of the most notable being "solve four words instead of three in the Sprint, and they're the same words rather than picking a pink or blue packet of three words each").

The Star Bonus actually inspired the current bonus round we all know today(picking a certain number of letters).  It may have been an "experiment"(& an awkward one at that too), but it sure was neat to see how it worked.  I guess it wasn't won as much as it was used.  At least they tried.

Maybe that's how 1 vs. 100 should be.  At the end, split the pot among those who got all 12 right.  Nobody with 12, go down to 11, and so on.  It's a game show mashup!

I remember that; I even saw an ep. with that format when GSN still ran the show. That was a great idea, and should've stuck around.

You misinterpreted.  I was saying that 1 vs. 100 should have celebrities matching answers rather than a '1', with audience members splitting the pot among their guesses rather than what rooting section they were in.

Doesn't that sort of take away from the point of the show, Mike, which I see to be one person taking on 100 people who are assumed to be smarter than them (at least from how I've come to look at the show)? Kind of like a "me vs. the world" sort of mentality?

That would just be boring to tune in every week to see the celebs matching wits with the audience...wouldn't keep my interest as much as the original point of 1 vs. 100.

Yes. What we're trying to get across is that this format as it stands now is FRIGGIN' BROKEN, and needs some pretty drastic changes to be interesting.

Which is your right. You asked Mike if he thought his idea took away from the point of the show. I was merely suggesting that Mike was doing that intentionally, because in the opinion of many, that point needs badly to be taken away from, because it doesn't work.

Another good example was G-T's Showoffs, which started out with a best two-rounds-out-of-three format, then briefly tried a format where the winner was declared after getting seven words, or more, correct.  A tie-breaker consisted of each team acting out two words, and the winner being the team who did it in less time.

I don't recall how long that lasted, but it shortly thereafter went back to the original format.
