I still stand firmly on my belief that Spin-Off had real potential, got a bum deal as far as station clearances were concerned and that--with a bit of tweaking to its bonus round so that contestants might have had a second chance at a sizable payoff if they couldn't get a consecutive straight or five of a kind--it might have eventually found an audience.

DoND has a similar problem once in a while, whenever someone pushes their luck too far and blows all the huge amounts so that we know they'll have to settle for anything from maybe $5 to just under $20,000.

I would of liked to have seen "$ale of the Century" last a little bit longer.

A problem? With all of the other problems the Deal has, you pick that one.

Others:

The Generation Gap
Celebrity Sweepstakes

I never saw Generation Gap until the two episodes hit the trade curcuit last year - but from what I've seen of it, I agree on that one.  I'd love to see one of the Jack Barry-hosted shows too!

I also would have liked to have seen Celebrity Sweepstakes last longer.  I find it kind of odd that it's not more highly regarded by the general game show community.  It ran a respectable 3 years (including the nighttime syndicated run), but it's never been repeated or revived (although I know there was an attempt in the '90s to revive it).   I consider it along the same lines as Hollywood Squares or Break the Bank, but the Sweepstakes sometimes gets lost in the shuffle in discussing the best old shows.

When you look at the number of game shows that came and went quickly in the '70s (sometimes too quickly), any show that ran 3 years did something right!  :)

My TiVO has been picking up reruns on i of "Dirty Rotten Cheater" and I forgot how much I liked that show, so I wish it would have lasted longer. It was a neat little show, and it probably would have done better on GSN. BTW, the reruns are airing at 3am on Sat & Sun nights (really Sun & Mon morn). I have the DirecTV national feed.

Anybody know when & why Celebrity Sweepstakes killed off the toteboard element which kept track of the correct answers from all the celebrities as the game progressed?  It was kind of cool for the home viewer & the audience to see who was smarter than who.

I know that that was a tongue-in-cheek list, but I saw a TP closing on YouTube a couple of weeks ago (the theme song was catchier than I remembered!). I remember it being a fun game, but would you have any idea of why it didn't catch on longer than it's one season? Did the Interactive game kill the momentum, or did it just drag too much, needing 12 answers to win?
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

More than any format twist or tweak, the problem, as I saw it, was far simpler. Limited exposure on the Family Channel before it was a more widely carried channel on cable systems. And Pat Robertson's master plan for the Family Channel that included selling it.

Hook us up with the TP closing you say is on You Tube. I'd enjoy seeing it again. And I'll talk to my webmaster about bandwidth and the possibility to post a clip of the never-seen TP syndie pilot featuring a super-spiffy set. Wink's teeth look even brighter!   ;-)

Randy, you missed probably the most important one...

HIT MAN!!!

If only it would have been extended by even just one week, you would have been much happier. Admit it, Randy!  You wouldn't have said no to another shot at the Triple Crown, now would you?

There is absolutely NO WAY that this show should have been cancelled.

I'm waiting for the Fremantle revival for the US version.

Of the 9 shows I did as a contestant, that failed Hit Man bonus round is an embarrassment topped only by my dismal failure on Face The Music. Thankfully THAT one hasn't surfaced! The PYL and All Star Blitz wins rocked! Yea, another shot and I would have kicked that hit man's ass!!

"You clod! How could you lose? The answers were RIGHT THERE! In front of you! The whole time!"

/And I say this from the comfort of my home, with no lights, no timer counting down the time, and also no prize money for the questions, puzzles or words solved. Such is life.
