I thought I remembered something about GSN having to remove all the fur coat episodes from their library before they were able to air TPiR...
That's exactly right...and that's probably why it didn't debut on the regular GSN schedule until Dec 1996.

And even then, occasionally one slipped through (almost always in a showcase, where it would have been easy to miss).
(And to whoever wanted to see
Fantasy; it was a game show in name only - almost every episode consisted of people being rewarded with "fantasies" for doing good deeds in their lives and/or needing something badly. The only game show elements I remember are (a) occasionally somebody got 30 seconds in whatever that booth that has the money being blown around inside it (like the one in the Diamond Head end game) is (in this case, I think all of the bills were $50s - and somebody grabbed over 100 of them in 30 seconds once), and (b) I might be confusing this with
The Fun Factory, but didn't
Fantasy have the game with the four contestants where there were four prizes, one of which was expensive, and the contestants secretly chose a prize, and won it if nobody else chose it?)
