Interesting, but not a surprise. I think there was concern about him spreading himself too thin by doing a daytime and the primetime version.
Is Marc Curry still in the running?

/Is unemployed comedians not popular since 1993 the new trend for game show hosts?

Fourth graf:

"Stations have refused to commit to the project until they see a host. Comic actor Mark Curry has also been mentioned as a candidate."

In other words, who knows?

As I recall, this was an issue for "Weakest Link" back in 2002.... It took NBC a LONG time to settle in on George Gray, after local stations were sent a long laundry list of potential hosts....

Yet still it got on the air on time. I'm sure the same will happen with Deal. Prediction : Arsenio Hall.

Sounds right...from what I remember, it wasn't announced until November or December of 01, so a month or two before its premiere.

{ObRamble}Come to think of it, the show prolly taped at least two or three weeks in advance, so maybe it was November, esp. since I remember the late Randy Amasia commenting on Gray's hire, and Amasia died in December.

Prediction : Arsenio Hall.

Not gonna happen -- I thought it was B&C last week that said that Hall/NBCUni broke ties.

No prediction... just hopes:

Either Andrew O'Keefe, Ron Pearson or (long shot!) Frank Nicotero.

Hell, if we're going to throw people that have starred in The Aristocrats, then:

Drew Carey or Billy the Mime.

Super Jackpot! Long Shot:

Wayne Brady.  If they're going for Mark Curry, they might as well go for Wayne.

I actually think Wayne Brady is a good call. I think he'd be perfect for a quiz.

And Drew Carey, though I doubt he'd do it, is a good pick for a primetime quiz. I thought he handled "Play for a Billion" quite well. Give him Match Game.

What I find interesting:  The article seemed to indicate that "Joker/Lock" only has a chance if syndie "DOND" blows up.  Is that really true that there's only room for one game show/game show block on the stations right now?  Granted, the court genre's still healthy and one or two more court shows are on the docket, but there only seems to be one new talk show out there right now and no new shows from this season with any life right now (like Megan, Dr. Keith, Greg).

I just can't buy that there's only room for one game show or game block and that "DOND" is it.

EDIT:  I also remembered that NBC Universal is hoping to take "iVillage Live" national from its rollout on NBC-owned stations and Bravo that started this week.  After seeing the craptacular premiere on Monday, God I hope not.

I don't see what could be so difficult about it either. I'm sure there's still a few former UPN or WB stations that didn't convert to CW or MyNetworkTV. Wouldn't they love to have some programming to fill their morning or afternoon schedule?

Prime access might be filled, but there's always mornings...
