More NBC/Universal Budget Cuts...
« on: December 05, 2006, 07:00:58 PM »
Beginning Wednesday, January 3rd, "Deal Or No Deal" returns to the three TWO-a-week schedule on NBC.

Edited to correct error...see below

Question posed to the panel: Would you rather see 2 eps of DOND a week or 2 eps of 1v100 if you had to make the choice?

Which brings me to a question --  would you rather see 3 DOND's a week and one 1v100, or 2 of each per week?

How about running each just once a week so neither are run into the ground?  I'd think even die-hard fans would tire of that much DOND...

How do you tie this into "more" NBC budget cuts?

I'd like to know.

My bad...I was still thinking the Friday @ 8PM slot, which went back to 1 vs. 100.

If NBC is planning to load up more Deals and Datelines in January as 'midseason replacements' as per
This Article, then I would attribute it to more cost-cutting moves.  Some of you mayhave already counted those midseason additions as part of the original amount of budget cuts.   It's the half-full/half-empty glass theory, it's all how you look at it.

/I haven't seen Friday Night TV in about 2 months.
//I haven't seen Friday Night Lights, either.
///And I don't miss Friday Night Videos at all!!

I would say it's the same cost-cutting moves.

Believe me, if ABC, CBS, or Fox starts having hits with scripted material at 8 Eastern/7 Central, NBC will undo this lickety-split.  And Jeff Zucker will get all the credit.

Well, no, not really.  NBC announced budget cuts, and an odd commitment to unscripted programming at 8pm, at pretty much the same time.  Now that schedule is coming to fruition.  Certainly if there were "more" budget cuts, that would have been reported.  This is pretty much what we were told would happen.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

And I think it's safe to say that if Identity is a sucess, it will be taking one of the "Deal or No Deal" timeslots.  That and Child's Play, as far as I know currently, is suppose to be an NBC show (that may change.  We saw Show Me The Money(What You Got)).

If Identity does well in 2 weeks, I think this schedule might work out best:

Monday 8PM-DoND
Wednesday 8PM-Identity
Friday 8PM-1 vs 100

The other nights can be changed every once in a while.  Just don't put any of the others that I listed on Thuraday nights.  I have chat sessions on that night.

Don't worry, NBC heard about your chat nights and decided to keep My Name is Earl and The Office at that time.

Don't knock it. I'm fairly convinced Jeff Zucker makes dumbass programming decisions in the same vein as our beloved poster.

/Do I get a strike for calling Jeff Zucker a dumbass?
//Do I get a strike for comparing Craig Karlberg to Jeff Zucker?
///Do I get a strike if I knock down ten pins in one ball in a frame of bowling?

There is an apocryphal story where Forrest Tucker (who was similarly known for his endowment) and Uncle Miltie were in a steam room frequented by many of the show-biz guys, and someone suggested a size contest. Berle said to Tucker: "Don't worry...I'll only pull out enough to win." :)

Deal or No Deal will also air Sun at 7 for three weeks in Jan to boost the new Grease reality show and The Apprentice.

So for a while it will be three times a week.

Hmmm--I had thought that once SNF ends that NBC was to roll out the new season of AMERICA'S GOT TALENT.  Or is that still in the plan and they're just delaying it by a few weeks?
