How is there doom and gloom?  I don't even like Sale that much for one.[/quote]

So you've already started with a negative label of Temptation.

Quote
I know people who worked on the pilot, and I've seen what stuff looks like/how stuff plays.

Funny -- I've seen screeners of other tv shows myself and I don't go all Chicken Little on the internet.  Why?  Because I'm not working for the company and things are always subject to change before they go on the air.

Quote
What I said was the truth, as far as pilots go, and not meant to seem like me bitching.  I don't even know where the idea I was nitpicking would come from in my recent post.

Quote
So every single show that was mentioned for syndication, with the exception of the Playmania clone, is a target for MyNetwork? Just stunning. If Temptations is the same as Temptation, this might not be good.
(emphasis mine)

So you're upset that a Fox network is taking back shows that could be syndicated?  Why?  When I see "just stunning" and "this might not be good" above, that's doom and gloom.  If it goes to MyNetwork, it goes to MyNetwork.  Certain syndicated shows in the 100+ markets go to the CW+ group.  It's business.  Life goes on.

Quote
I'm not nitpicking, and if it seemed like it I apologize.

You're not, and I'll retract that part of my earlier post.  However, you're still negative of a show that A) hasn't aired yet and B) you're going off of reports from other people.

Now, to be fair:

1. MyNetwork is on some pretty obscure stations, and is on digital subcarriers in quite a few markets that don't have the requisite six stations, so if they aren't spending any money to advertise it, you could happily spend your life not knowing it's on. It's fairly likely he CAN'T get it if his market is small enough or he doesn't have cable or a digital tuner. Then again, I know it's on and don't care - watching Morgan Fairchild and Bo Derek chew scenery isn't high on my list of things to do.

2. Even if you know it's there, they do a lousy job of promoting it - I had no idea until this week they have dropped their original two shows and brought in two new ones. And I watch the local outlet for Simpsons reruns and college basketball.
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

3. Since MNT sells ad space on its shows by the week, rather than by the day, they therefore don't show up on any of the daily/weekly Nielsen ratings roundups.

Which is just as well when you get 1/3 the numbers of the CW and half those of Univision (not counting "La Fea Mas Bella").... and "i" is knocking on your back door with a primetime schedule of "Growing Pains" and "Mama's Family" reruns.

MyNetworkTV was started, evidently, to try and keep a whole lotta primary stations that used to carry mainly UPN or WB from having to revert back to being the dreaded...independent stations!  And I still don't find anything wrong with that.  I'd much rather see old movies, locally-produced women's or discussion shows, and especially regional state or college sports events limited to carriage on OTA local stations without any network affiliation at all.  I've already been dragged through decades of affiliate pre-emptions of network shows I'd have preferred to see; let's try to leave that era behind, shall we, network affiliates?
And even though there are a ton of cable channels now picking up off-network shows, there are still lots of others sitting in the vault gathering dust when they ought to have a look.

As for what channel occupies MyNetworkTV or an indie, it's too bad higher-numbered channels are still considered the less-desirable outlets in and out of the industry, after all those millions the FCC poured into UHF advancement long ago.  Personally, if I had the chance to choose at 5 PM between Judge Judy on Channel 3, Extra on Channel 6, Dr. Keith Ablow on Channel 7 and a first-season rerun episode of The Good Guys on Channel 58, I'd change over to Channel 58 in a heartbeat.

Not necessarily...The original game plan for MNTV was to run the original two shows for 13 weeks, then intro 2 new ones....these shows were shot cheap and quick, even shooting in San Diego, to avoid union issues from what I hear (again, hearsay from a manager from my station)....

Here's the thing about MNTV...I work for an ABC affil that has a second station that , until this fall, was the UPN outlet. Managers say they were completely caught off guard , as was the industry, by the WB/UPN merger. Not surprised, mind you, just caught off guard. The announcement was made on the merger, IIRC, days before NATPE....

What to do to program 12 hours/week instantly? Enter Fox, with this idea, that they sold affiliates with, that you could have 12 hours/week of fresh material, NO RERUNS, 52 weeks a year. Cheap. Not a bad prospect, and for many, the only viable option on short notice. (Though Gawd I wish we had done what UPN21 in Dallas did, plug a 2 hour newscast into the mix. Damn these stupid managers for not embracing any more original broadcasting anymore).

I raised an issue back in Jan, and I raise it again for you. If the telenovela idea doesn't work (and I think it's safe to say it ain't working), when will Fox go to a more traditional plan and air 6 nights a week of different programming. And THEN, at what point will Fox develop their first 'hit' on MNTV, and then attempt to repurpose it on Fox ?  Wait till that poostorm, kids. It will happen.

That's why I think "Temptation" could very well work 5 nights a week. Keep it fresh, keep it rerun-free, and give the audience a chance to root for a player who could stay on for a week or two...Ratings wise? It's not going to light up any Nielsen charts, but I'd wager dollars to donuts it won't do worse than a 0.7 Fashion House got.....

The amount of promotion for My seems to depend on the market.  In New York, Richard Huff of the NY Daily News has consistently criticized WNYW, the Fox flagship, for constant cross-promotion of My (on Fox-owned sister WWOR in New York) on their newscasts, and on the "Good Day NY" morning show in particular (including having one of the novela cast members as a guest host for a week).  "GDNY" was competitive with the network morning shows, although I assume less now with Jim Ryan gone as the front man.

If it's any indication, in Chicago WPWR's billboard campaign has seemed to focus more on the daytime talk shows (Tyra, Dr. Keith and Montel lauded as "THE BEST TALK IN CHICAGO!" and Jerry Springer not even brought up) and less on the prime time novelas.

However, since I don't listen to terrestrial radio at work anymore, I don't know what sort of radio campaigns Chicago stations do.  During sweeps, half the stop sets on most Chicago radio stations seem to have TV station or network ads on them.  Perhaps WPWR was plugging the My novelas on their radio spots.

Glad I could entertain ya today Chris. I hope you get much enjoyment out of my seemingly random musings in the future... :)

As for the info given about MyNetwork, thank you very much! After doing quite a bit of searching, I found I don't get MyNetwork, at all, under the current cable plan. The closest station is in Baltimore, WDCA, whereas all the stations we get are now based in Salisbury, MD or Dover, DE. The NBC's and a CBS are the only exceptions...

In the end, I'd just rather the shows enter syndication, that way, at least, the shows have the potential to reach a bigger audience than I'd believe MyNetwork could provide right now (and of course, I could see them!)...

Interestingly enough, my local MNTV affiliate, KPDX-49, is one of the few that doesn't use the "My" branding; it calls itself "PDX49", which it adopted a few months after The CW announcement.

In fact, their website barely promotes MNTV at all, except for a small banner ad for one of the two network shows.

It wouldn't work in L.A. with KCAL doing news three hours of news per night. In San Francisco, Young-owned KRON actually gave up two hours of local news for My Network.

When MyNetwork was created, our then-UPN affilliate was required to use the official MyNetwork logo on all station IDs -- and if you wanted your channel number and/or station name included with/within the logo, it had to be first approved by Murdoch's clan.  (I wonder how KPDX got away without using the official branding and logo) by King Rupert.

Since our MyNetwork station is low-power to begin with, we didn't even bother with adding a channel number to the logo ID.

The only promotional blitz Murdoch did with MyNetwork was right before it started back in September, and for all the commercials which played here on the radio, the cable stations and the UPN and FOX affiliates, I thought they were serious in getting this network going the way FOX began way back when.  When the second semester of telenovelas started, there was *no* fanfare at all.

2007 may be a great year for "i -- the station formerly known as PAX", if they can create some additional programming, whether it be old reruns of shows, or more shows like "Doc", "Sue Thomas FB Eye" or "Candid Camera" which were done specifically for PAX, then maybe some of these MyNetwork stations might jump ship for i for their better programming.

/Wow, never thought I'd ever say "i" and "better programming" in the same sentence!

Well...here's what happened in my necks of the woods with the whole MyNetwork situation.

At home, via South Bend, Indiana, before this mess, there was a WB station, a UPN station, and a local independent station.  The WB and UPN stations were on local cable, while the independent was not.  After the merger, our WB station took on the CW affliation, the UPN station rebranded themselves as SBT2 (after WSBT, the local CBS affliate, whom had control of the UPN station to begin with), and the independent became the MyNetwork affliate.  Confused yet?

And here's the Killer Card (too soon?)...through my research of cable stuff...you can't get the station via cable at all.  You have to get it over-the-air via antenna.  Unless things have changed really recently....

At college, via Indianapolis affiliations, you can receive both CW and MyNetwork channels though cable.

Well from living in NYC all my life and knowing our MyNetwork being Channel 9 aka the former WOR which I share fond memories of long running and short running game shows (TJW, TTT, Play the Percentages, MG, Pyramid) I think for this channel it's just the shot in the arm the network needs to go back in the right direction, even when in the late 80s they had 1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime on. It might have been not the greatest game show but it kept the idea that a game show in prime time could still be somewhat watchable so I look forward to these 4, especially the return of Catch Phrase which I had a lot of fun with in the mid 80s on WCBS blocked with the dreaded Rayburn/Farago Break the Bank (which got relegated with Strike It Rich to the wee hours of the night like other game shows at that time).
