Why doesn't Sony own GSN anymore?
« on: September 12, 2003, 03:47:07 PM »
How come Sony doesn't officially own Game Show Network anymore, since nowadays they have access to 1 season each of \"Wheel of Fortune\", \"Jeopardy!\", Tom Bergeron's \"Hollywood Squares\", Bob Eubanks' \"Newlywed Game\", and \"$100,000 Pyramid\"? I know GSN never aired \"$25,000 Pyramid\" episodes from 1984-1986 since they may have been misplaced. Maybe it's Liberty Media's rules or something like that.

Sony owns 50% of GSN.  Liberty Media owns 50%.

Sony sold its half to Liberty for reasons of additional capital (and, personally, because there was a feeling that they'd rather have a firm with experience running cable networks running things, since they sure as hell didn't have anyone with that experience running things when they owned the whole thing).
