New Love Connection

No I am not talking about a version or Pat Bullard's train wreck.   GSN has acquired some new episodes of Love Connection.  They started yesterday with eps from 1984.  

Now here is the game show connection.  At the end of one of the descriptions, there was a pass on a second date in which Chuck said to the rejected woman "we have some nice parting gifts for you".  I wonder when that practice ended.  

Also, these are the episodes in which Rod Roddy gives an introductory spiel that is different than the same one in future shows.

Are these episodes from the 1983-84 season or the 1984-85 season?

I think he's referring to an intro like the one seen on "I Love the 80s 3-D: 1986". It involved the LC logo popping up across the screen, until the screen was filled. They then showed a shot of one of the day's contestants looking for love, their head enclosed in a "heart".

I meant that in the episodes GSN is now showing, the introductory spiel was a summation of today's episode with who and their choices for the date.  In later episodes, they would use the "Where old-fashioned romance meets modern day technology" for every episode.  It is nice to hear Rod Roddy's other work.

Wow, cool, something to tape every day.  Not that it's one of my favorite shows, but there's an episode somewhere in this "previously not rerun" batch that includes an appearance by Timothy Treadwell, who years later lived with bears, got eaten by one and became the subject of a documentary film.  I consider that one a holy grail for my classic TV collection.

I'll be recording it every day too. I'm not a big fan of Love Connection, but my brother is. I think he'd love to see the show's early days.

Was the Love Connection that aired today (Saturday) the same one that aired Monday.  I didn't see that, and wasn't sure if they were just continuing from Friday's show on the weekends, or starting the run over on the weekends.

Am I correct to assume the one that ran Monday, January 1 (if it wasn't pre-empted by the Lingo marathon, which I thought it was) or Tuesday, January 2, was in fact the premiere?

Not the premiere of the series, as the series premiered in 1983 and these are from 1984.  Anyone know where in 1984 the run began?

Doesn't mean they couldn't have thrown in some episodes from 1983, tho. I mean, they just started with early eps. so we don't know what GSN has up their sleeve.

If I've remembered past discussions correctly, Rod announced the first *two* seasons (through 85).  Then Rich Jefferies did 85-86, Gene did 86-88, Johnny Gilbert did a year (1988-89) and Cervanka did the rest.  

This is only speculation, but given that GSN tends to lease for 4 year periods (we've seen it before with the G-T shows, the Sony show seasons, etc.), and that GSN's been running the 1988-1992 episodes for 4 years now, that the original block expired, and they leased new ones (1984-1988).  It fits their past history and tendencies, so it could well be. (May not be, but makes as much sense as anything)

My recollection is that Rod announced from 1983-86, Gene from 1986-87 and Rich from 1987-88 with the other two in the years in which you placed them.
