Mid 80s syndicated game shows airing a year later
« on: January 03, 2007, 02:54:38 PM »
I seem to recall something strange in that in 1987-88 WPWR Channel 50 having a prime time line-up of the $100,000 Pyramid which had its first regular Chicago airing other than a brief summer 1986 run on WFLD 32 which was always bumped for White Sox games, Mtachmaker, and the previous season game shows the syndicated Bill Rafferty Card Sharks, which didn't air the previous year in Chicago and David Sparks Crosswits which had an overnight run on WMAQ 5. In fact, I think the original  5 season version was only on in Chicago a few months on WFLD meaning we got two years of the second version. What was the deal with Crad Sharks though? It seems a little late to be bicycled and since Chicago was a top market one would asume they would have gotten the episoes first if it was bicycled. Also, I think I seem to recall WISN in Milwaukee airing the 1987-88 Lingo in 1988-89. Did anyone else have markets that aired game shows like this in the mid to late 80s?

WBNX-TV 55, an Ernest Angely-owned television outlet licensed to Akron but also serving Greater Cleveland, did this. Syndicated $ale of the Century along with The Joker's Wild and Tic Tac Dough ran during the 1986-87 season (all three had been canned the season before).
Don't know if the channel still does this, but being owned by The Great Healer Of Eardrums, whenever someone would say "God" or "damn" or "hell" or....you get the drift, those words would be censored in the manner of the NBC daytime games of old.

When WOIO-TV 19 started in 1984, they aired The $1.98 Beauty Show reruns...but that would've been 5 or 6 years after they originally aired.  Without going all threadjack, didn't Barris syndicate The Newlywed Game and The Dating Game reruns from the 70s around this time?  Possibly $1.98 was part of this package as well...

Yes, Mr. Angely still mutes anything which he feels is the least bit offensive.

(And props to Mister O for today's banner tribute.)

You may be confusing WOIO-19  (which premiered on 5/19/85) with WCLQ-Channel 61 which premiered in 1980-81.  When 'CLQ, the New Channel 61 signed on, they aired 70's reruns of TNG.  I don't remember TDG airing at all on on 61 nor 19 -- at least not the Lange versions.

No, but I do remember 1977-80 TNG and 1978-80 TDG airing on WOR-TV Channel 9 until their mid-80s NEW! versions began.
How I miss Channel 61's pre-home shopping years. Are they a Univision channel now?

I remember WOIO airing The $1.98 Beauty Show at 7:30 PM on Saturday nights during WOIO's infancy.  You're dead on about WCLQ rerunning TNG.  I thought they reran TDG as well during the same time period.

You get a star.  I have no golds.  Will you a sky blue star suffice?

Yes, since 2001.
