NBC wants people to watch this dumb Grease auditions thing.
I was going to mention that, but I thought better of it, fearing a whoosh trap.  And if Michimatt says the exact same thing one minute later, I'm going to send him my leftover eggnog. ;-)
/wondering how NBC's going to work around the "dirty words" in "Greased Lightning"
Ever watch Tim Allen's rendition of "Greased Lightning" in one of Home Improvement's last episodes?

ObGS, HI edition: Tim's castmates included a then-future game show host and a former substitute card dealer.
ObGS, Travolta edition: One of Travolta's Welcome Back, Kotter castmates, Robert Hegyes, was a regular game show panelist in the '70s and '80s.
It's not perfect by any means, but we are slowly improving in my opinion.
When the top five cases are $50,000; $100,000; $200,000, $500,000 and $1 million, we'll talk about the show improving.
IMPROVING?!? I'm sorry, but I must respectively disagree here. That addition of Double or Nothing completely reeks of copycatysm from the Aussie version, and that was quickly axed after, what, a few measly months?
Well, the show is already a "copycat" in several ways. And Double or Nothing stuck around for a good long time. They just knew better than to trot it out every day. "So, Jim, you've won a hundred bucks. Wanna go Double or Nothing?"
What I'd like to see is the "Chance" offered in the Oz version
My personal favorite "overtime" bit from the Australian version is the Super Case, but that's just me.

Trotting out the Double would be good as a sweeps manuver and hopefully, this will only be done sparingly.  Otherwise, this will just be overdone like half of everything else on the show.

I'd be interested in seeing how many people wager a part (not all) of their winnings in it.  I'd put the over/under at 25% (of those who go Double/Nothing)

I am saddened by the general lack of appreciation of tight pants on ladies in this discussion.

Hey, I would have hit it like Greased Lightning.

/sadly, that's how quickly I'd probably finish, too

Though not an NBC affiliate, Akron-based TV station WBNX had graciously rented out the Ernest Angely Blackout Button for this very special DoND

(inspired by this thread...about half way down)

So you're saying 75% will NOT shoot the wad? That's probably pretty accurate. I know in my experience most of the Australian contestants didn't shoot the wad.

The way I read it was that Joe says 25% of the players will risk at least some of their money on the double or nothing, not 25% will bet it all.

Having seen most every Aussie Deal that has circulated through torrent sites over the past year, I recall three people betting it all, one won (doubled $100 to $200) and the others lost it all, one lost $2 while the other lost no more than $1000.

Like Travis, I enjoy the Supercase and would like to see it used in our version.

>_>

I'd say 10% of people will actually attempt this new wrinkle (they may be dumb, but they're not stupid), and of those that do, 25% will not bet it all.

The option to bet any or all of your winnings minimizes the effect of Double Or Nothing.

It should be like CS's Big Bet -- must risk at least half your money.

Why do I keep unblocking your posts? That really needs to be fixed in a New Years Resolution of mine.

I actually liked D/N....version 2.

Version One on the aussie show had only one big case that either said Double or Nothing in it...To me, it reeked of producer tampering.

The second version had two cases with both, and the contestant picking the case he wanted. Much better.

Funny how some of you are complimenting a game for adding new wrinkles, when its becoming apparent that the original game, sans wrinkles, is probably getting stale to producers, and the audience for that matter. This is all they can do to keep it fresh.

For the record, promos show that the models will be wearing 50s poodle skirts at the top of the show--yes, it's all to promote "Grease:  You're the One That I Want," starring your host Billy Bush, which will immediately follow.  (I heard somewhere that a star of the film will make a "surprise" appearance on "DOND"--she's also appearing on "One That I Want."  You'll never been mellow if you don't know who it might be.)

"The Apprentice" is also having its season premiere Sunday night, but Trump was on "DOND" last season.  It was yooge.  :)

Program Note:  Special "1v100" next Sun. the 14th at 7 p.m. ET.  I wonder if they'll do a "Grease" cast reunion in the Mob.

Geez, Mark!   You spoiled the DOND spoiler spot that NBC was to run this weekend, which was going to spoil the surprise guest's cameo on Sunday!

Into the Double Dare Spoilers Booth you go Dr. Jeffries!  :-P
