I know I'm starting to sound like a shill for this Shokus Radio thing, but I really think anyone who's a game show fan of any sort will want to tune in tomorrow.  Stu's guest on his live flagship program is Ronnie Greenberg, the guy who made some of our favorite games (The Three W's, Money Maze, Big Showdown), produced a bunch of other ones (including just about anything Barry-Enright put out) and has a career in game shows that stretches back into the fifties.  We're talking about living game show history here, and he's going to be talking game shows for two hours (7-9 ET) on Wednesday.

Seriously, if a bunch of us turn out for this thing tomorrow, it will shatter their listenership records.  Plus you'll get two hours of game show stories, and a chance to win some Shokus DVDs just for calling in.  DoND is a rerun while Bush yaks, so why not give it a listen?

They'll also be announcing a new interactive game show that Greenberg himself will be hosting in the coming weeks.  I participated in a runthrough last week, and it's a very simple, very engaging little game that promises to be fun to play and to hear.  They're taking registrations on the website right now.  Anybody can play (in fact, that's the title!), but you do have to be registered.  Honest-to-goodness cash prizes (not a lot, but still...) plus Shokus DVDs just for playing.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

Seconded.  Besides being a heckuva nice guy, Ronnie's got all sorts of great stories (ask him who's on the front of the WWW box game, for example).

And, as Matt said, the interactive game is easy to play and fun (even if you're competing against a couple of -- ahem! -- teachers).  And it's free.  What could be better?

Well here I go promoting stuff and it doesn't even work.  I've contacted Stu and hopefully he'll have it fixed soon.

Stu appears to have fixed it (at least it worked for me this morning).  Try again, and don't forget to tune in tonight to hear Ronnie!

Thirded.  Having seen him at the last two Game Show Congreffes, the guy's a walking history of the genre.  I'm out for most of this evening, otherwise I'd join everyone on-line.

Yes, that was a ton of fun. I think every single caller was One of Us if I'm not mistaken. There was me (although very unparticipatory due to phone problems), Matt, Mike, Andy at the beginning whose self-description matched that of a 'netgame player I knew back in the day, Al Martella, etc. That show would make a good Shokus release if they did audio stuff. Just wall-to-wall great stories. I mean - who know the endgame of Big Showdown was originally opening a safe?

Apparently it will be rerun through the weekend. If you didn't catch it tonight - it's well worth the time investment!

Anyone have this on tape?
Back to topic, I missed this sensational program (I'll catch one of the reracks, of course) but that entire radio station is a happy retro trip for me. Absolutely a magnificent job by all hands involved. And what a collection!

I was glad I only live 5 minutes from work, I pretty much had the website set to click onto when I got home so as not to miss more than the first 5 minutes of the show.

Ron is a great guy, and I would love to see him do what he can to get The Big Showdown remade!   And boy did he bring out some great stories and some incredible little-known trivia!

And darn it, I knew I'd blow a question on two names I always get confused with for whatever reason...Don Morrow & Mike Darrow,...GRRR!

And for those who did not hear the show, stay tuned for the exact day/time for Stu's live show with Johnny Gilbert in February.  Keep up the great work, Stu!

Tim, when you missed that, I ran to my EOTVGS because I was sure you were right.  When I saw "Mike Darrow", I thought to myself, "Well, isn't that what he said?"  And that was just a few seconds later.  So you're not nearly the only one who gets them mixed up.

I loved learning that the names on the box game are those of Ronnie's kids.  That's going on the website.

What a great show! I had a sneaky suspicion all the callers were from here.
