Calm down, you're looking like a fanb0i. And honestly, you're casting stones before he even hosts the show. Honestly, that's quite ignorant as well.

Look, I'm not fond of the guy's resume, but he could be one of the better hosts we've seen. Mandel and Saget, and to a lesser extent, Osmond were pleasant surprises.
You're right, you're right.  I shouldn't judge a book by its cover.  I just feel a little upset because they somehow didn't consider somebody with more experience.
This guy could be more than just a pretty face. And honestly, a lot of MyNetwork stations are getting this show. MNTV's lineup right now is primetime soaps featuring actors who look like Rossi. MNTV is likely trying to court that same audience.
What lousy reasoning!  I would rather fail with a successful international format hosted by an experienced host with at least some sort of broadcast work on his resume that succeed with one emceed by a pretty-boy former athlete.
You really think they'd drag a 60-something Jim Perry out of retirement for this?
Not really, but I still think Todd Newton should have at least had a chance to host a pilot.
Just because the producers wanted someone young and handsome, it doesn't mean he's gonna pull a Dylan Lane, so step back in off the window ledge and calm down.
I still predict he's going to fall flat on his face, but I'll tune in for a brief period to see how he does.

You stubbornly cling to this misguided notion that Todd Newton would be competent in the role when there is zero (and I mean zero) evidence to support that theory. Do you know something we don't? Is there some game show he hosted that the entire population of the Game Show Forum minus you have never seen? You haven't even tried to defend your position, you just say "He'd be good because I think he'd be good." Someone who got better than a 1.6 in Introduction to Logic could name the specific fallacy you're committing, but I throw my Bullpucky Beanbag and challenge your assertion.

Argumentum ad verecundiam, or the appeal to authority. More popularly known as the "Because I said so" fallacy. Also known as ipse dixit, from the Latin for "he himself said it".

You want backup evidence?  All righty then, here it is.... (exhaling deeply)

I just felt that since Todd was so good at doing those "take it or leave it" deliveries that he did on Hollywood Showdown's Box Office round a long while back, maybe he could handle the Instant Bargains on Temptation just as well.  As for the handling of the questions during the Speed Round, maybe if he worked on it hard enough he could be a more-than-decent host.  I also figured that since the stars of the other international versions of Temptation have had some broadcasting (radio AND television) experience, maybe Fremantle would have taken that into consideration in their selection instead of hiring somebody who's only had nothing more than a few low-rent cable reality shows and a college football career to his name.

Also, Todd does have that distinctive voice for radio and, I might point out, also hosted another game show revival (Whammy!).

And FYI, I have seen his work on E! in addition to both of the game shows he hosted; his audio/video resume on his website has also been taken into consideration.

So there we are.  I believe this is the best defense that I can come up with without sounding like (as you so eloquently referred to me, Mr. Travis) "a gibbering ninny."

And it still fails, since nowhere in there have you explained how Todd Newton would suddenly turn into a good reader.

So you're admitting that the guy you want to host the show can't handle what is a fairly important part of the show, and you have absolutely no idea whether or not he could, but because "maybe" he could do so he should be picked?

Hey, David Sparks hosted the revival of Cross-Wits.  Let's get him to host.

Your post isn't "backup evidence," it's a bunch of "maybe"s, "possibly"s and assorted irrelevancies.  You'd be much better off if you'd simply admit that your real reason is "I want Todd Newton 'cuz," rather than continuing to try to defend it beyond that.

Do you know how many game shows, past and present, use a "take it or leave it" element?! Most Barry-Enright bonus games, LMaD, D/ND, some TPiR games, Millionaire, and many more use that. By your logic, we could get Barker, Mandel, Viera, or better yet, let's dig up Jack Barry! Be sure to put him in an open-collar suit like all the cool kids are wearing! Your argument holds water like an 80-year-old man in Depends.

And he yelled. A lot. I can see the Fame Game now. "$25!!!!11!1!" I liked him on HoSho, but this is not his speed. He'd do well on a looser-structered type of show.

Todd was playing the role of "Game Show Host" on what was very clearly a parody of the genre as a whole. Almost everyone here saw that show for what it was. Almost everyone.

You know how the truth is a valid defense against slander/libel? I hold the truth. I am more than happy to continue "sparring" with you, because I have all of the cards. ALL of them. You have zero ammunition, which no fewer than (what are we up to? Five?) five different people have told right to your face. But you keep tilting at windmills, and just like in the great story of Alonso Quixano, the windmill will kick ass every time. If there's anything I like more than making foolish people look or sound completely ridiculous, I haven't found it yet. But then again, I'm young yet. I have plenty of time.

I guess we really don't have a choice but to give the new guy a chance, do we? The game show genre is just starting to grow again, and we're dealing with a game that has not been on TV for nearly 20 years. We don't have a stable group of hosts to choose from, unlike the '70s or '80s, when you could easily find someone who had some sort of game show hosting experience. We have to deal with a whole new crop of candidates.
A 40-50 year old man on a network full of 25 year olds? Doesn't add up, man. The "experience before looks" era of television has been long dead.
