Twenty years ago today, Jeopardy! aired its first Teen Tournament.  I was one of the first three players to experience that wonderful event.

In honor of this, I have uploaded the video of my appearance on February 16th, 1987.  Click the link below to access the page:

1987 Jeopardy Teen Tournament, First Semifinal Game

I'll keep the page up as long as my bandwidth holds out.   Enjoy!

Thanks for uploading that - stinks you didn't seem to have quite the finesse on the buzzer as the man on the far left. It always strikes me to see young people on older shows because most of the time, they look older than they actually are. Maybe it's just the hairstyles of the time and what not. But more on the episode itself - whose bright idea was it not to include scoreboards on the tight shots?

I'd love to put this game in the J! Archive, but I'm not getting any video. The audio's playing just fine. Problem is the same in Windows Media, VLC, and WinAmp. Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction? Thanks.

I haven't looked but based on that I'm gonna guess it's either Xvid or DivX format. So you'll need a codec because it appears you don't have one now. Probably the easiest way to go there would be to get ffdshow.

Just as I was about to edit my post to say installing the DivX codec fixed it, I saw that you beat me to the punch. Thank you sir.

If I'm not mistaken, GSN has indeed aired the 86-87 season, but it's been a good seven or eight years. Cool that you have the original copy.

And does it say something about the state of game show inflation, that the J! tourney champion (in 1987) won "only" $25,000, considering this year's champion received $75K?

Either Jeopardy! is a mob front, or a tax haven for King World.

It kinda takes a bit of the excitement out of the two-day final when you realize that there is almost zero chance that the winner is actually going to surpass the grand prize--from what I recall, it happened quite a few times back when it was $25,000 for the "age" tournaments.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

Now, I come at this from the other side. For one, I don't know---I like to see a grand prize be  just that: a grand prize. "You have won our $25,000 Teen Tournament,  and you'll be taking home $28,601." Sheesh, why not just play two  regular games?

Also, I'm willing to bet that the show is making more than three times as much money now as it was two decades ago (especially since we're not accounting for inflation here). The regular games are now worth twice as much, the Teen Tournament worth three times as much, and the ToC worth two and a half times. I utterly fail to see any problem with that. Am I completely out of my wits?

Proving that: 1) I reply to myself, and 2) I have far too much time on my hands...
