Was watching an couple eps of the MG DVD and noticed a consolation prize of a kitchen countertop.

That struck me as one of the strangest, and semi-useless (unless you're actually planning on redoing your kitchen) consolation prizes I've ever seen.

Anything else jump out ant anyone as being an odd choice in LPGs?

It's just a regular old telephone given on behalf of ISC (now InventHelp) so they can get the plug.

Z-Brick also made me laugh, but then there's that mosquito net prize Chris Clementson made light of before.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this was an attempt at humor rather than a genuine question.

I haven't really been watching TPIR enough to know whether this has been a LPG yet, but I would bet some of those Presidential action figures would rank right up there in weirdness.

Why get a countertop when you can get an entire kitchen island?

I remember seeing Lee Nails on Jeopardy! Not that unusual, except that all three contestants that day were male. Come to think of it, I think I remember seeing Hooked on Phonics on J! on another occasion.

One thing I always wondered about was the Ben Franklin Stores gift certificates that they used to give out on certain shows...what good would that do you if you didn't live in an area with a Ben Franklin store?

I think I might have brought this up before, but I'll say it anyway...could you consider a game show home game prize strange if you did poorly on said show?

You go on a game show. You don't do well on said show, and lose. One of your consolation prizes is that show's home game.

Do you consider it a strange prize, kind of like a reminder of how bad you did?

Now that you mention it, it is a somewhat ironic prize.

Reminds me of an early Bergeron Squares episode, where the male contestant missed several opportunities to block, and lost the game.

During the bonus round, Craig Shoemaker said, "I wonder if he's gonna get the home game and learn how to block?"

Ah. Ironic, perhaps, but I dunno about strange, since a copy of the home game is pretty much the canonical consolation prize.

"Please, take this home and play it so that you can always be reminded of your failure! Ha ha!"

I found the movie tickets quite odd. Those were given away as parting gifts quite often in the late 70s.

Frankly, a good Ben Franklin is worth a trip. Not the kind with only craft junk, the variety store where you might still find a Three on a Match home game ten years after the show was cancelled. Grand Marais, Minnesota still has one (a good Ben Franklin, not a Three on a Match home game).

On Price's college Million Dollar Spectacular back in 2004, I remember one of the consolation prizes was a $3,000 trip to Las Vegas -- arguably better than what most of the winners ended up with, and worth more than at least one of their total winnings.
