That's understandable.  Regis's heart is obviously in New York and the commute could be - how should I put this - murder on anyone.  Then again, Dick Clark did it all the time during the 70s when he did Pyramid and Bandstand for ABC.

I wonder how often Dick made the trip during that era.  I know that when the show was on CBS during the '80s, they'd often tape 15 shows on weekends.  I'd imagine they'd have done something similar in the ABC years so that he wouldn't have had to make the trip more than twice a month.

Wait a second: I'm slightly confused.  I thought that Bandstand moved from Philadelphia to LA sometime in the 60s, and Pyramid moved to LA when it was brought back as the $25K daytime version in the 80s, so Dick wouldn't have had to commute by then.

How far in advance did game shows tape in those days, anyhow?

Which leaves the 70's.

I remember hearing somewhere they taped 15 shows IN ONE DAY.  Not sure if they did that more than one consecutive day however.

During a break at a Wheel taping last year, Charlie O stated they used to tape 10 a day (5-25k & 5-100k).

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

I'm guessing that Bob Stewart got taping five episodes down to a science, but during the period of the 25k and 100k, how long did it take to tape five in a row of Pyramid.

I don't see how the math works on something like that.  With a less-than-generous fifteen minutes between shows, you're talking about eleven hours of just taping, not including set-up time and meal breaks.  I can't begin to imagine the overtime charges for your union crew, not to mention the mental exhaustion of even the hardiest of hosts.  If it was vitally important to do it, I guess it would be conceivable.  It sure doesn't make a lot of sense, though.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

You've probably noticed that Dick always said so long, saluted and didn't stick around as the credits rolled.  I guess he was rushing off to take a nap. :)
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

The other (more logical) story that he was off to his dressing room to put on his television producer/entrepreneur hat, get his messages and make/take phone calls.  One wonders how often he'd delay tapings by being tied up on the phone when they were ready to go--but I guess people got used to hearing him say "gotta do 'Pyramid'--call you back in a half-hour or so."

I believe it was in the (recently linked) Bob Stewart video interview that the 15-episode taping day was mentioned. Bob could be misremembering, of course, but he did make it sound like it was an extreme situation.

I have a hard time believing that Dick held up taping much at all with phone calls. Absolutely nothing to support that other than the man's general record of professionalism, but I can't see it.
