Dick's first piece in MAD appeared when he was still in high school in the early 60's, so he's gotta be somewhere in his late 50's.
Would Mark Goodson hire someone still in high school to be the head writer on a network show in the 60's? I thought you had to be least 18 to join the writers union. [/quote]
I'd think so. He just wouldn't join the union until he was of age. Especially since his work was proven to be good already.

And besides, Goodson didn't hire union writers (or at least under a union contract)--which is why DeBartolo was credited with "Questions by," "Topics by," "Editorial staff" and "Special material"--never "writer." If Goodson called him a "writer," he would've have to have joined the WGA.
