Well, to paraphrase Woody Allen, just because he's paranoid doesn't mean we're not out to get him. :-)
As for the original subjects of the thread, I think that they prove only one thing: a Price contestant doesn't have to be a frat boy with a "BOB R00LZ" T-shirt, or require eighty chances to win Ten Chances, to be stupid. But then, if the quick interview in line doesn't always reveal who's going to be an idiot on stage, how can we expect it to reveal who's going to be an idiot once the show's over?
