From ShopTalk:

NICK SMITH becomes the new Host of ABC's primetime show "American Inventor." Nick recently worked for ABC O&O KGO-TV in San Francisco and contributed to both The View from the Bay and the ABC7 News team. Previously, Nick was an anchor/reporter at Fox O&O WTXF-TV in Philadelphia.

Can't say I can picture this guy, but I thought it was interesting to note that a new host has entered the arena.

Todd Newton hosted the last American Inventor, and did an okay job. Hopefully this guy has abit more personality.

He was so unmemorable that I had to look up the guy's name: Matt Gallant. I'm curious how you got to Newton's name, though... :)

I did enjoy the show when it aired, and I'm glad it was renewed; maybe this time not up against the Thursday Night Buzzsaw.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

Whoops, I was thinking of another inventer show, Made in the USA (on USA).

My bad.

Matt Gallant was the host of Planet's Funniest (as in canned laughter) Animals.

Wasn't Matt Gallant also on DirecTV's in-house channel (the one that appears on Ch. 201 with constant repeats about how to set up and use your DirecTV service)?

The name sounds familiar from somewhere, and I've never heard of Planet's Funniest Animals.

Not for nothin', but if I can see Channel 201 to see this program, don't I already have my service set up?

Touché.  ;-)

Technically, it would have been more accurate to say "get the most out of".  I just tuned in to see what the channel was showing, and they had some woman showing you how to program your DirecTV remote, and an offer for a scam where you can spend six bucks a month to insure your system against power surges and other things.

Apparently, we've also gotten some new channels recently: a bunch of crappy E! knockoffs, and the "Chiller" channel showing mystery and horror movies.  At least that gave me the chance to know Stage Fright off the list of Alfred Hitchcock movies I hadn't yet seen.
