TPiR Help Wanted

According to this post at G-R, they are looking for help in compiling episodes for a TPiR DVD set.

I don't know if participation is strictly limited to that board, but I was (not surprised) to see some of the ridiculous requests over there, such as:
Quote
1. February 23, 2004 (the original "El Skunko")--#3544K
(whatever the hell that is)
Quote
I think it would be cool to show the premires of all 102 pricing games that have debuted on the show.

That said, anything special come to mind for you guys?

Why am I similarly not at all surprised that someone said that?

A montage of all grocery items with outdated packaging.

Seriously, a couple of Bill Cullen, Dennis James and Tom Kennedy non-fur shows (add Doug Davidson if you must).

The games aren't hard to figure out, but when they have jargon peppered throughout, it's harder for me to figure out why such tags are added, especially since there's no glossary or anything.

And yes, I am completely unsurprised that a person who has no dog in the hunt would be the first to ask for every game ever played on the show to fit on a single disk.

Sadly, it's not limited to GR.net. See the "Cathy Spin Battle" bit in one of the GSM threads.

I happened to read the thread again, and didn't realize there was 7 freakin' pages of this crap.

Moreso, the "rep" from BCI responded and made a list of some of the most requested episodes in the thread (scroll down).

Among them:
"Pauline Episode" (whatever this means.  Was she the woman who's breasts were exposed)?
"Alita the Samoan" (again, who?)
"Roshina vs Plinko"

And then, I found this submission:
Quote
An all-around great episode, with unusually hyper contestants, notably "Little Larry." And of interest to us, Credit Card doing its winning flash at the start of the game, and a very odd pre-Cliff Hangers Range Game-ish camera shot.

Um, yay?

Consider me a casual fan of Price who wouldn't mind picking up a set of classic episodes, but if these are the episode descriptions that are given, I guess I wouldn't have any reason at all to buy it, considering I have no idea what makes said episodes special.

I don't know what those episodes are, either, but so what? God forbid that a community of die-hard fans develop a shorthand that isn't immediately accessible to you. They have some nerve!

The very post you link to has the BCI rep saying:

I just wanted to echo what a few others have already posted...we do want to ensure that the selected episodes are significant, in their entirety, to both the casual consumer and the die-hard fan.

Given that we've seen that particular bit ad nauseum on other shows, I really don't think it deserves a place on a Best Of disk set.

/And you're thinking of Yolanda, Mark. Also someone who has had her 15 minutes extended by virtue of the same clip shows.

The name Pauline sounds familiar, but I don't remember which blooper she's from. Here's to having a life. :-P The one who "came on down, and came on out" was Yolanda.

/Okay, so much for having a life...

Seriously, I'm not trying to sound like an elitist snob, but I honestly wonder do some of the more rabid game show fans realize that while BCI is trying to give the game show fans something nice, this is not our small little circle, but folks interested in seeing old-school TPiR? Mary Housewife from Topeka doesn't give two brown nuggets about an El Skunko.

Honestly, I'd just be happy if they put episodes from an era when cars still had four digits in the price. A tame audience, Bob with dark hair, and fairly conservative fashion sense. Could care less about the bloopers that I've seen a million times over the last decade.

//How many times is the same clip still funny?
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Yolanda was the lady with the wardrobe malfunction, of course including that on the set might give it a TV-M rating. :) I'd rather see general episodes to start with, that show the evolution of the show from Bill's version to today.  After that, they can do big wins, Samoans, etc.  Why put all your eggs in one basket?  I'll wait for a research fee before suggesting anything else.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I tried to think if we, as a general game show community, had anything similar, and I could only think of a few examples that are still relevant anymore. References to someone's "bowling buddy" might be the only one, with somebody "being Horan" or just using Zach as a derogatory slur coming in second.

We have a couple, but any specialized community is going to have a couple of in-jokes. That list really had the Variety feel of "let's make some crap up so we can feel exclusive and special." I don't think we're anywhere close to that.
