Another vintage host sighting
« on: April 14, 2007, 10:17:48 PM »
Face the Music host Ron Ely can be seen, in his acting days, in The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker, Sunday, April 15 at 8:00 AM ET on the Fox Movie Channel.

The movie stars Clifton Webb as a "progressive" man who defies the conventions of his day (the turn of the last century) to father 17 children by two women in Harrisburg and Philadelphia, PA.  Ely's role is as a preacher's son who wants to marry one of Webb's daughters (and is scandalized when she greets him -- barefoot!).  Ely's stereotypical game show host smile is already in evidence, although of course the best parts go to Webb -- including one scene of Webb, who was pushing 70 by the time this movie was made, on roller skates!

Also appearing in smaller roles are veteran character actor Charles Coburn (who's delightful as always) and Richard Deacon (whom you may recall as Mel Cooley on the original Dick van Dyke Show).
