GSN's Music Clearances

Does Game Show Network/Sony/Liberty Media have to pay a music clearance fee for a lump sum or something like that if they want to rerun on GSN \"The Gong Show\", \"The $1.98 Beauty Show\", and/or \"The New Treasure Hunt 1973-1977/Treasure Hunt 1981\". (There's even something about music clearances for the ABC and 1978-1980 Jim Lange \"Dating Game\" in the \"Newlywed Game VS. Dating Game\" thread?) Even GSN could never get the rights to other classic music game shows \"Name That Tune\", \"Face the Music\", \"Musical Chairs\" (Adam Wade's 1975 game show), \"Pop and Rocker Game\", and a late 1980's MTV game show called \"Remote Control\". GSN has never aired Bob Stewart's 1978 \"Love Experts\" because of Silveretti's \"Spring Rain\" theme song in the game show!

I don't think Spring Rain is the reason for GSN's not airing Love Experts.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

Then what would it be, Mr. Horan?

Off the top of my head, the two far more logical possibilities would be that 1) The original syndicator owns the episodes, not Sony and 2) GSN has no interest in an obscure relationship show no one remembers.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

That's the story I heard.....apparently that's tying up Cullen's $25,000 Pyramid eps as well. I'm sure if they wanted to show Nipsey's \"Jackpot!\" pilot as part of Raise the Dead [J84 also used Spring Rain] I'm sure they could've cleared it with no problems.
