TPIR in HD?
« on: April 20, 2007, 10:59:20 PM »
I noticed on today's show...they showed one of the cameras and it clearly says its an HD camera, so this makes me think that 33/Barker Studio is set for HD as soon as they want to do it.

I have to ask the obvious question...come fall should we expect TPIR to be in HD with the new host and a updated set?

Expect? I'm not sure. Would make sense? I think so. Set update? I'm not expecting anything too drastic, maybe a slight paint job. Part of PIR's appeal nowadays is its retroness; if it gets too up-too-date, it loses a bit of that "charm," if you will.

Full disclosure: This is purely personal speculation and opinion, and shouldn't be construed to be anything more than that.

In a word, no.

In more words, no significant set changes are planned and the studio is not presently equiped for HD.

On my last visit Maher was upstairs in 56 or 58... the larger of the two. The Pat Sajak talk show memorial studio   ;-)

Maher's show is NOT in HD.  I get HBO-HD and can tell you its still in regular standard def.

Just because they have HD capable cameras (which from seeing them in person, I can tell you they do) doesn't mean the rest of the studio's equipment is HD compatable.

For whatever it's worth, Bill Maher does currently tape in studio 33.

IIRC, right now the only studios at TV City that are HD-equipped are the ones across the street where "Idol" and "Dancing" are shot, correct?

SortaObGameShow:  And where Bruce Burmester can be found these days every Monday through Wednesday around 5 p.m. PT running his backtiming software (his assistant Molly Gray has to do "Dancing" on Tuesday nights).

Presumedly, 41 & 43 for Y&R.
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Cheers to that. I work for a local Canadian cable company, and we have brand new Sony DXC-50 cameras for our studio. They say HD on them, but we're so far away from being HD ready, its not funny.

Well, it makes sense. If you're going to buy new cameras anyhow, why get some that you're just going to have to get rid of in a couple years? Get the good ones, and then as time passes and the rest of the studio is being upgraded to HD, you're all set.

You mean DXC-D50's? They're not HD. Maybe the lenses you guys have on them are labeled as HD models.

As Chris said, it would only make sense for CBS to buy HD cameras right away, even if the rest of the studio is not HD yet. Then, that way, they'd be ready.

I can also see it making sense to the beancounters---they could spend the million or so to get the HD cameras now, then spend another million or so at a later date to upgrade the rest of the studio's video equipment.

There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.
