........Ty Treadway, from SoapNet's "Soap Talk" and "One Life to Live". Here is your source. Based of what I've seen from the guy (yes I've seen a bit of his work here and there), it's actually not a bad choice, certainly more of a fit on paper than Rossi Moreale and "Temptation".

Damn.  I was hoping for Pat Finn or Patrick Wayne.  Shame, shame.

You know what surprises me here, is that they are sticking with the working title "Let's Play Crosswords" instead of figuring out a way to drop the "Let's Play" part of things, which to my ear just sounds like a red flag that I shouldn't take the thing at all seriously.

A year after his original version of J! became a hit, Merv developed a show in 1965 called Let's Play Post Office [players guess fictional letters written by famous people], which just as well wasn't taken that seriously, though that old show's concept resurfaced in the late 1990's as the "E-Mail" category on another creation of Merv's entitled Click, hosted by some guy named Seacrest.

Also, don't forget that the current J! has used "Crosswords" as a category.

Of course, this was the same Merv Griffin who, a year after his original version of J! became a hit, developed a show in 1965 called Let's Play Post Office [players guess fictional letters written by famous people], which itself resurfaced in the late 1990's as the "E-Mail" category on another creation of Merv's entitled Click, hosted by some guy named Seacrest.

Is there some kind of problem with just calling it "Cross Words" or "Word Cross" or something like that? Is that thought too dull a name or does somebody have a "copyright" on the title Crosswords?

I'm wondering if "Crossfire" would bring up too many memories of the CNN show, or if it's too politically incorrect since some might relate it to violence. Yes, I know that "Cross-Wits" used it for its bonus round...who, outside of this forum would know that?

As for the host pick, Ty actually sounds like a decent choice. He already has talk show hosting experience, which could prolly help him with ad-libbing. From the few times I've seen "Soap Talk", he seemed competent enough.
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Well, there was that Jerry Payne pilot, "Crosswords".

Also, from earlier in the thread...

Well, they could try for the skateboard audience and call it "X-Words."
(Or the Jerry Springer audience, for that matter.)
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

"Let's Do Crosswords"....sounds like what one English major would say to another when they want to have a little romp in the sack.

/Whole new meaning to 69 Across....
