Match Game '79

After CBS removed MG from its lineup in April of 79, it continued to be seen on WCBS in NY and KNXT in LA. As you may or may not know, I collect old issues of TV Guide and the ones from New York never had a panel listing, so I could not figure out what was aired.

However, I just came into possession of a few issues from LA from the summer of '79 which do list the panels, so I guess if I throw out some names, I could find out if they were reruns, "never-aired" episodes or syndie versions getting an LA airing before the formal rollout.

Here goes: 5/28-29/79-Bert Convy, Patti Duke Astin, Audrey Landers, BS, CNR.

5/30-6/1-Nipsey, Dick Martin, Dolly Martin, BS, CNR, FF.

7/9-7/10-Bart Braverman, Barbara Rhodes, DM, BS, CNR, FF

7/11-7/13-Guich Koock, Betty White, Paul Williams, etc.

8/13-14-Jack Jones, Loni Anderson, Joyce Bulifant.

8/15-17-Don Galloway, Lee Meriwether, Bill Daily.

9/4-Bill Cullen, Marcia Wallace.

9/5-9/7-Orson Bean, Bill Daily, Dick Martin, Brianne Leary, FF.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

My guess is that they were syndicated, if only to the CBS stations. My recollection is that there was no interruption in the production of MG during the summer of '79, so that rules out the theory that they were off-network reruns.

I wish I had a better answer for you.

Guich Koock was on Match Game twice.  One of those weeks in early '79 had Betty White and Paul Williams on the panel.  Jack Jones wasn't on MG all that much either, yet one of his weeks had Anderson and Bulifant playing as well.  Even though it's not 100% confirmation, I would venture to say a good percentage of your listings, if not all, were reruns.

Going by what was on the old matchgame.org site, these weeks did air completely on CBS in early 79:
5/28-29/79-Bert Convy, Patti Duke Astin, Audrey Landers, BS, CNR.

7/11-7/13-Guich Koock, Betty White, Paul Williams, etc.

8/13-14-Jack Jones, Loni Anderson, Joyce Bulifant
However,  only a few episodes of these weeks aired on CBS:

8/15-17-Don Galloway, Lee Meriwether, Bill Daily.

9/4-Bill Cullen, Marcia Wallace.
And this week never aired on CBS at all:

9/5-9/7-Orson Bean, Bill Daily, Dick Martin, Brianne Leary, FF.

If you want to be completely picky (and I do -- heh heh), the Dolly Martin week featured Patti Deutsch, not Fannie Flagg. Fannie was supposed to be on that week (hence the TV Guide listing), but, according to Gene, she got her tapings dates confused and never showed up, so they called Patti in to replace her. Fannie did indeed appear the next week.
