- LMAD $12.99 at Big Lots (already?)
I saw a stack of these in Farm & Fleet before Christmas, and had to wonder if there's ever been a less-interesting premise for a board game.  "Is the other side of this card a Zonk?"  "No?"  "You're right!  You win!"
I guess it depends on how it's implemented. The old Ideal version had each player taking a turn as MC with the incentive to get the other players, acting as contestants, to accept zonks or cash amounts lower than the value of the prizes behind the curtain/box/doors being that the MC has to pay the cash amounts out of his own money but wins that amount of money if the contestant takes what turns out to be a zonk instead of the cash (or something like that). It's still not the greatest, but at least it introduces some strategy into the game, unlike the way it would work if there were a single MC who had no stake in the outcome of deals. It's similar to the way DOND was adapted for the home version, which turned out to be surprisingly playable (with the right crowd).

Merv Griffin's Crosswords.

Believe me, I had to stop and think about it myself.  Not exactly one of the best-known shows to abbreviate.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.
Home games at closeout stores:

I found it for $13.99 at the local Big Lots, but what's a buck amongst friends?

Ollie's has the Moment of Truth game for $3.99, and you'd probably be overpaying for it at that price.

For those in the Cleveland area, most Marc's stores have ESPN Jeopardy! for $6.99.

If you have the chance to pick this up, if nothing else, it's worth it just for getting the handheld baseball style buzzer and its SportCenter Final J! music.

Would it be possible to post what this SportsCenter Final Jeopardy! music sounds like? As an ardent yet frugal fan of ESPN, I don't want to buy another ESPN board game that no one will play with me. (Although I love my ESPN Monopoly game.)

I had no idea this existed, though I'm not terribly surprised.

Is it just the same game with a different skin or are there actual gameplay differences?

Here is a picture of ESPN Jeopardy! by Pressman Toys. As far as I can tell its main two attractions are the buzzer and the value slides can't be removed from the gameboard.

It is the same game, as is all most Monopoly translations. (I'm not sure but I'm going to cover my bases.)

Just a week or so ago I would have said "all" myself (at least, among officially licensed ones), but I noticed that Monopoly Revolution had changed up the board layout.

(Plus there's Mega Monopoly, with the larger board and skyscrapers.)

Hm.  And here I was, looking at it in the store thinking "This is Monopoly for hipsters."  It may still be, but yay for different.

Oh, it still is. The changes to the board layout (they basically shuffled up the Chance, Community Chest, Railroad, and Utility spaces) and what looks like it's automating Chance and Community Chest are the only fundamental changes to the game.

(They also messed with the dollar values, but it looks like it's only done by several factors of 10, no big math changes.)

Meanwhile, we'll never see a Settlers of Catan: Chinpokomon Edition.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

In all my years of gaming, I have not returned to the gateway game. Not once. But it is noting that you don't see those "licensed variants" that seem to come from everything from Monopoly to Uno.
