Bert's Family Feud (Australia) has been axed
« on: May 10, 2007, 10:21:06 PM »
Here is an article out of yesterday's paper

"Bert Newton's show boned" (Herald-Sun, Melbourne, 10 May 2007)

It's kinda sad - but probably inevitable.

In all honesty I'm surprised it took this long. Not because it was a bad show - far from it - but because it just wasn't making inroads against the Deal.

The show hasn't been axed.  It has, in fact, been "boned".

For those of you who don't live in Australia, this term originated from a memo circulated by the CEO of the Nine Network Australia (Eddie McGuire, who hosts 1 vs. 100 over here) in reference to the host of a breakfast news/current affairs programme who has officially been relieved of her duties.

I don't think that applies in this case. The show, as it was, was axed. I would think that in the case of it being "boned," that would mean that it wouldn't be "Bert's" Family Feud anymore, but someone else's.

(I understand that I don't live in Australia, but I'm just going by what I read from that statement.)

I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

I was waiting for something like that. Had to resist the temptation, though.

Nope, sorry, different show.  Same network, though.

That's now TWO game shows the powerhouse of Deal or No Deal have now forced the axe. The other being The Price Is Right.

So is Australian TV so limited, there's only room for one game show?  WTF?

[/quote]If that were to happen here in the US, that'd be the day Hell froze over.  But down under, that's what happens when Deal is a far superior show.

If the situation was possible, I wonder what would win in a Temptation/Deal timeslot showdown?

DON'T even go there. Blankety Blanks has already been attempted in that timeslot in the 1990s (and failed miserably). Finding suitably qualified celebrities to run the show well could be a serious challenge.

As for a replacement  show - they might resort to something other than a game show (they've been showing repeats of the BBC show "Antique Roadshow" in that slot during non-rating periods). Clearly - the Aussie audiences are not keen for anymore tried-and-trusted (and some might say, tired) formats - based on their responses to TPiR and FF.

Mind you - if they could bring "Wheel" back (with Larry Emdur) - I believe he is out of contract.......
