According to 'the Perfesser.....'

"GSN will telescope Black and White Overnight to one hour (two shows) beginning Nov. 3 and expand paid programming to 5-6 a.m. (EDT)"

Wanna bet which two shows are gonna stay on?

Cordially,

My stament regarding this:

(Long Chain of Expletives deleted)

My bet would be WML and IGAS.    If PW and/or TTTT stay, I'd be pleasantly surprised.....

Also:   I've got to wonder why an hour of B&WO is getting the can.   If it's to pay for Millionaire, or more eps of Sony shows, then, dangit, send 'em back.....

When I first read that on his site, I got excited.  Yes!  Excited!  I thought it meant that paid programming was only going to be on 5-6AM and that was it.

But I guess not.

I think I'll say......

[expletive deleted]

At this rate, we may be seeing TJW and TTD back in.......2030, and even then it'll be the 1990 versions because \"YOU WWIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!\" and \"Next definition, last definition, next word\" became edgy sometime.:-P

They've got to pay for Millionaire somehow since I doubt they're printing up bills in one of the buildings in the Sony lot.

(the mouse does need his cheese, you know...it ain't cheap!)

I have two choice words that can sum up exactly how I feel about this move...

OH (--BLEEP--)!

I guess I'll be hitting the haystack a bit earlyer come Nov.

Quite frankly, dear ones, I'm surprised Black & White Overnight has lasted this long. And at least we've still got the one hour.
But this news is still a pisser.

Game Show Network is going to expand its informercials to 4 hours a day from 3 hours a day starting in November? That could or could not be worse!

When GSN first carried informercials (in the middle of the Goodson-Todman game show-less DARK PERIOD) in January 1998 the informercials were 5-6 hours a day, later they were reduced to 3-4 hours a day.

Were airing informercials on GSN to raise money to get the rights to the Goodson-Todman game show library back? I bet this could be the same when the informercials become 4 hours a day to: 1) Raise money to get Sony owned game shows leased for more than 1 season of each show - maybe even bring back in 2004 \"Joker's Wild\" and \"Tic Tac Dough\", 2) Raise money to get music licences cleared on Sony's owned Chuck Barris game shows (\"Dating Game\", \"Gong Show\", and \"Treasure Hunt\") and maybe get the rights to \"Name That Tune\", 3) Raise money to keep the Goodson-Todman library, 4) Raise money to get rights to add more game shows to its library like NBC's \"Concentration\" and \"Classic Concentration\" or even get the entire \"The Price is Right\" library back, 5) Raise money in case the 2 hour 3 day a weekend video games block flops and vanishes from GSN after at least 1 month, 6) Anything else you can think of if possible?

Jesus, would you people STOP WITH THIS? There are people from GSN who read this board, y'all have made it eminently clear you want these shows back, and running it into the ground is getting annoying.

How about:

7) Some beancounter somewhere figured out that the number of viewers they would lost by dropping the B/W block to two hours was well worth the enhanced revenue they would take in by running informercials in that slot.

After all, with all of the whining I have seen, I don't think I've seen a single soul suggest an out and out boycott, so it seems GSN has lost nothing-nada-zero-not a sausage from doing this.

My guess is \"Millionaire\" off-network from ABC, a network hurting for $$, did not come cheap.

I would like them to at least try to burn through all the TTTT's from the daytime run, because they're darn interesting.

And let's be real about this...GSN has plain spoiled us for two years with the block, and the WMLs and IGAS's are treading very familiar territory now...probably it'll be \"Truth\" and \"Password\" called to continue past November.

Boycott, no.  I think people should watch what they want to, and it's not my place to tell others how to get their entertainment.  Personally, though, I haven't hit 309 on the dish in about a month.  The only thing that entices me has been the early-run Feuds, and that's just not enough for a network to get my attention, especially with all of the fall shuffling that's been going on.

Sorry, but I can say I just don't plain watch it anymore.  Makes a guy want to save some bucks and drop to a lower tier of service.

Actually....with these news combined with their horrible originals (Funny Money and Cram come to mind) and the news of GSN taking off \"Press Your Luck\" off the weekday schedule, I think I may be the first one to actually admit that I would totally boycott GSN totally. Heck, I never have enough time to watch GSN these days anyway. Since I usually get home late, I always look forward to the Black & White Overnight....and I will enjoy it a lot more with Password making a comeback!

But with all of these horrible changes, I may boycott GSN more than I am right now. Nowadays, I watch about 6 hours of GSN total a week....and half of that is the current PYL blocks on right now. The other half is B&W Overnights. Once PYL is gone and B&W overnights are cut in half (probably without PW), I may not even watch GSN anymore.

....one wonders why GSN's viewership has gone down 40% in one year.

Who has time to call for boycotts these days anyway? There's so many *other* channels to watch, I don't have the time! ;-) I think a GSN 'boycott' is a little too extreme just because they don't run ____________  which is 'my all-time favorite show'. And, like a fair amount of us, I find myself just watching the B&W Overnights lately. Four shows is a nice treat; at least we'll still have two come November. I'll just be searching for something on Nick-at-Nite or TV Land to watch while I'm slaving away over a hot radio board. I still tune to GSN if something looks interesting to me (or my 'Lingo' ep is on ;-)), but as a whole I'm more concerned with supporting H2 this season. I feel it's my duty to search KCAL 9 in L.A. and figure out when it's on... sometimes it's almost like a scavenger hunt!

I think it's great that GSN got 'Millionaire'; I'm still burnt out over the Reege version. I hope it gets decent ratings for them.

JOSH

P.S. Anyone excited that Nick-at-Nite will soon add 'Roseanne' and 'Full House' to their line-up? Where the heck are 'Benson' and 'Night Court'?

I think what some people are upset about is knowing what GSN has access through via Sony, and seeing them not show much interest in ever running it.  I think most of us are just hoping for even one slot per day, or an hour or two on weekends where rarer shows would be run, and are having a hard time understanding why this doesn't happen.  That's my take on it anyway.

I certainly understand that GSN has to go with shows most people remember to try to increase ratings, but if they really are down 40%, that should be telling them something.  That could be a major reason why they got \"Millionaire\" - which I think is a good move.  They must figure that the hoped-for ratings increase would offset the cost of acquiring the show, and draw more attention to the network.

One thing that's been nagging me for a while though - if this is the way GSN is going to be, should those of us who want to see the rarer shows from the vault give up hope of ever seeing them again?  In other words, should we now accept the fact that they'll NEVER be run anywhere again?
