... Sources say negotiations involved leggy models, 26 silver briefcases and an unseen banker.

Well, so much for having a different version of the show (UK format, perhaps?) for daytime.

This will surely dilute, and ultimately destroy the franchise. Only NBC could do that to one of their very few success stories.

Seriously. How awesome would it be to have Howie do a game in a small arena like the UK format, and have 22 regular people opening the cases, where we could get to know the people over time? Certainly couldn't be one from every state of the union, but I'm sure something along those lines could be worked out.

Daytime programming targets women, no matter how you throw a stick at it. I would hope to see not a single model.

The time constraints are interesting...although I guess the Aussies fit the format into a half-hour. Noel and crew could squeeze the show into a half hour if need be, but it's more comfortable at 45.

Because having models is such a detriment to TPIR?

So...any bets that the top prize will remain at $1 million?

Or, will it go lower?

I'm thinking that the top prize will stay the same....IMHO, with the exception of some weeks where they get the mo'money syndrome and bump the prize to more than that (talking nighttime of course), the show's draw is the million. WWTBAM didn't cut any corners and I don't see DoND doing it either.

Since the top prize is seldom won, why go lower than a mil?  I think NBC would like to wean itself away from the show in favor of whatever will be the Next Big Thing in prime time, so readying it for syndication a year from now is a good way to prepare.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

If the prize budget for a five-a-week strip is in excess of $100K per episode* (which is what I think it would need to be under the current money tree), I will be amazed.

* Strictly a guess based on seeing obnoxious people make hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the fact that you can be drooling on the podium and get a six-figure offer at some point. It would actually be very interesting to know if anyone has kept track of a complete list of games and how much was won since the Mandel version started, to figure out a per-game average payout.

Dump that information in a spreadsheet, and off you go.

Outstanding. Thank you, Doctor.

So I looked that over, and culled out every game where the comments mentioned the game was played for more than $1,000,000. I found 121 such games.

In those 121 games, a total of $12,970,288 was paid out. For a per-game total of $107,192 and some change.

So it seems my estimation was, even to my surprise, almost exactly right.

No way in HELL does a syndicated five-a-week game have that kind of prize budget.

I'm not math guy, by any stretch.  (I'm a musician.  I count to four and then start over.  Five when I'm feeling Brubecky.)  But here's my question:  What if you leave the top prize at a mil, and reduce some of the other numbers--say the second-highest prize is $250K rather than $500K.  Is that enough to get your budget under control?

GREAT question.

I think you need to do two things. One, leave it at a million, and lower the rest of the payouts...dangle that carrot with the risk of walking with a lot less.

2, you need a banker to be tougher with the offers. Taking the mean average of the remaining values is what makes this show no more intelligent than a coin toss with 26 pairs of breasts. Make the players agonize over the choice. THAT'S what makes the show more interesting than a coin toss with 26 pairs of breasts.

"A coin toss with 26 pairs of breasts". I may need to trademark that.

I think it needs to be mentioned that the average is so high because DOND uses a top heavy board.  If you do not make the board so top heavy, the the prize budget will be easily in control.

Me think $500,000 should be the top prize.  With the next amounts being $250,000 and $100,000.
