The problem is that they *need* big in order to be able to load in the set pieces. Unless they develop smallified versions of some of the games to take on the road.

Big stage, yes. But a big audience, particularly one with balconies, is a bad idea, as we saw in the Vegas episodes.
The only thing I could think of for a stage show would be an indoor arena or convention hall, i.e. the Jacob Javitts Center or MSG as suggested earlier. Even something like a basketball arena could work, just section off portions of the audience. Not sure how large your "stage" area might be.

One problem I see with a convention hall might be setting up seating.

Color me skeptical about them ever taking the TV show on the road again, given all of the problems they had the first (and last) time they did it. I know they priced out doing the show from MSG and they were looking at a cost of $1 million (less people and prizes) to do a week of shows from NY.

Is there really that much of a novelty to seeing a show on the road? Now that Wheel does it, what, half the year, it doesn't seem that cool unless you happen to be in the visited city. Unless you did play Cliff Hangers on a real mountain. Or had a five-story tall Plinko game.

Oooooh. I like where you're going with that.

I'm heading over to the "Ideas for Price is Right" thread. See you there.

It buys the cast, crew and company a free trip to the destination city. Never mind that they go through living hell trying to put on the show there.

What interested me was the mention that they're thinking of taking the show on the road....The key would be getting the right places to stage it (The Vegas episode a few years back was OK, but they probably needed a different venue..) Like if they did some NYC eps, I wouldn't go to Radio City Music Hall, I would try the Theater at Madison Square Garden (it's a little smaller)
Ya just KNOW Cleveland will be on or near the top of the list!  TPiR may have an opportunity to get to Cleveland before Wheel and J! ever do (and WoF & J! have done road trips for HOW many years now???).

I think the Palace Theater on Playhouse Square would be a great venue, plus its about 2-3 blocks away from the CBS affiliate, WOIO.

The last time TPIR sorta came to town was way back when Bob Barker did the ol' Fun & Games circuit down at the old Richfield Coliseum (which was fairly new at the time and has since been torn down).

Speaking of, has WOIO gone overboard with this news? Surely the 5th place station in the Mkt could use a shot of good news.

No.  I watched WOIO's 11 PM newscast on Monday to see if Drew would be the top story.  He was the first thing mentioned on the news, but the whole story didn't come for another 7 or 8 minutes.  WJW, the FOX affiliate which was Cleveland's CBS affiliate until the early 90s, briefly mentioned the story in waning moments before the end of the newscast.

I LOL'ed at the Wheel of Justice reference.

That stage looks awfully small:

TPIR is unique in that it requires a sizeable enclosed area, attached to the stage and at stage level, to hold games and prizes. You can't bring TPIR into just any theater and do it. ISTR that they tried to deal with the need for offstage space in Las Vegas by trying to use the built-in stage elevators. This concept looked great on paper but didn't work out quite the way it was supposed to when they got there. Randy probably remembers more about it than I.

The State Theatre in Cleveland:

http://www.playhousesquare.com/minisites/s...ST_liteplot.pdf

looks a little more promising because it appears to have this little "bonus" area located at the rear of the stage if I'm reading this plot right. If we knew the width of the TPIR doors we could sketch out a little plan (I'm guessing they're 16' wide).

Somebody in Cleveland go into the State Theatre and start taking pictures :-)

I've been to the State Theatre enough.  Heck, I used to work in the office building connected to Playhouse Square.  The State's stage is probably wide enough to handle TPiR but it's nowhere near as deep as 33.  Also, the area behind Playhouse Square is not large enough to hold however many trucks would transport everything needed for the production.  Having 1000 or so people waiting in the foyer of the State with the overflow on Euclid Avenue could be a problem, given the perpetual construction of the Euclid Corridor downtown and because I wouldn't visit downtown Cleveland on Euclid Avenue between Midnight and 5 AM.

The I-X Center, on the other hand...

The State Theater is 62' from curtain line to back wall. Eyeballing a diagram of 33, it's probably 50' or so from back wall to contestants' row. The other theaters in Cleveland have shallower stages and no offstage space.

Yeah, so? I don't see a room at the I-X Center which would be able to handle the lighting and sound requirements of a TV show on the scale of TPIR, not to mention having a theater-style fly gallery, cyc and stage as added conveniences.

Any other game show would be much easier to take on the road, but not TPIR with its vast amount of scenery (including prizes). Drew's idea of taking TPIR all over the US needs a serious reality check.

Yes but...if you're traveling to major cities, why do you need to schlep prizes around?

I'm gonna guess that Drew said that, not aware of what a pain in the ass it would be to take the show on the road (since really nobody outside of us geeks has any idea), and that when he gets involved with Roger et. al. he will quickly discovered the logistics of it.

I'm sure the I-X Center has stage capacities.  Is a single stage big enough for TPiR?  Very doubtful.  The A/V and seating issues might be entirely different.  If you could mix the audio, video, and seating capabilities of Playhouse Square with the sheer volume of I-X, it would be a near perfect match.

The only other venue which in Cleveland which would be feasible would be Quicken Loans Arena.

/And given the feasibility of this idea, all this debating about what venue in Cleveland could work for TPiR is virtually pointless.
